Baby shower?

Did anyone not have a shower for their first baby? We have very few people that would be invited/attend and I am really just not feeling it.  Is it crazy for us to say "no thanks" to those offering to throw us a shower and just get everything on our own?

    I didn't have a shower.  After Rowen was born we had a little party so people could come meet him but it wasn't the same as a shower.  That was my problem too.  I moved cross country about a month before Rowen was born so I didn't really have many people to invite.  I had some people from my side of the family and a couple of friends from high school but it just seemed silly to even try to have a shower.

    I had one shower that was just with ten people, we too wanted to just buy everything ourselves, but DH's family ended up throwing me a small shower.

    I was going to suggest just having a little Meet the Baby party a couple weeks after the baby is born if you want do something. Gifts aren't expected for those type of events, you can do it on your own time/schedule and it's still a way to celebrate this awesome time for guys :)

    I would just kindly tell the people who are offering the shower that you appreciate their generosity but you plan to purchase everything yourselves.
