Clomiphene

My husband and I have been TTC for a little over a year.  I heard about Clomid.  What does everyone know about is?

Re: Clomiphene

  • I have friends that have had great success with Clomid - because it addressed their fertility problems.

You don't say whether or not you have seen a doctor re: your troubles conceiving.  Have you been charting?

I would say that those should be your first two steps - chart for a cycle or two, and then make a doctor's appointment.  Clomid won't do you any good if the problem is with your husband's sperm count, kwim?

If your doctor has already determined that you are a candidate for clomid, and you are comfortable with any risks, then I say go for it!  Like I said, I have lots of friends that have had success - and not a single multiple birth between the lot (not that it couldn't happen). :)

    Good luck!

  • Hi I am sorry that you have been having a hard time ttc. I would first chart for a few months like the pp said (if you have not been) so you have some "data" to look at. Then you want to visit with your OB/GYN and discuss things. Another option is seeing if you can get a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist. I had 2 mc, an ep, and ama so I saw an RE to help us. Under his care the first thing I did try was clomid. I believe it is REALLY important to be monitored closely on clomid (some OBs will prescribe it and then not do a ton of monitoring). For me, it caused a lot of cysts. Since that did not seem to work for us, we moved on to femera, and then finally menopur with IUI (#2 did the trick for us). Try visiting the trouble ttc board as the girls there can be really helpful and supportive. I will be happy to answer any other questions, too. I hope you get your sticky bfp real soon. :-)

    Hi,

Our soon to be baby is a Clomid baby! Due any day now!  :-)

Question- Is Clomid for him or you?

Hubby and I are 9 years in the making.  Hubby was put on Clomid to increase his sperm count and mobility.  It did nothing for him.  After many visits to the urologist, our doctor told us that adoption would be our only option as his sperm counts are extremely low.  Shhh, it only takes ONE swimmer for a baby.  Thus, we decided to turn to western methods.  I filled hubby's tummy with pomegranates, yams, and raspberries to name a few.  His counts went up drastically.  (Was it the foods?  Who knows?)

I have endometriosis, PCOS, and have always had irregular periods.  When we first started trying I went to my regular OB/GYN.  She put me on Provera to prompt periods and then a low dose of Clomid.  I began my first cycle.  I started reading more about Clomid and talking to others who began the process.  Hubby and I agreed that 4 cycles of Clomid with 2 inseminations per cycle was our limit.  If it did not take after the 4th cycle, we were moving to adoption.

I met a random woman at Walgreens of all places.  She listened to our story and handed me a card to The Center of Reproductive Medicine.  She simply said "your body, your money and your time may be better spent here".  I thanked her and began to read the card.  I turned back around and she was gone.  I went home and called.  Hubby's insurance would not cover the expenses so I called Blue Cross and picked-up an individual plan and began treatments.

Our first cycle failed.  However, to our surprise the second cycle took.  Through our journey one thing that I wish we would have done FIRST and not LAST is go straight to the experts.  Looking back we spent too much time, and money at the urologist and gynecologist.  The Center of Reproductive Medicine specializes in just the baby making process.  That is all they do.  Thus, they are doing regular ultrasounds, watching for cysts and monitoring your cycle.  Once their job is done you are kicked back to your own doctor.

As for your question of Clomid, just make sure you are monitored closely.  I developed a large cyst the first cycle that needed to be removed.  It also made me VERY teary and emotional.  On a more positive note, it is a drug that has been around for years and one of the safer ones on the market.  Always read and educate yourself as knowledge is power.

I wish you the best of luck and pray it does not take you as long as it did us.  As much as I hated hearing the words "relax" it is SO true.  :-)

  • This baby is a Clomid baby!

What all are you wanting to know?  I did 3 cycles on Clomid 100 mg, 2 with IUI and it worked.  I went to Western OB? GYN in Waconia, and they have a pretty fantastic fertilty program.  I would say, your first step is calling your GYN and setting up a fertilty work up.  They should run some bloodwork, probably do an HSG, and check your partner's sperm.

At Western, I went in for "follicle studies" where they checked to make sure there were no cysts, and to monitor the status of any follicles throughout my cycles.  I cannot stress enough how amazing they were to me!!

  • Thanks mommies :0). I hope this will work. I had a miscarriage last October and haven't had a "cycle" sense.  Been trying to chart and watch for ovulation, but it comes and goes and then just stops.  Been a good year without a good cycle, so talking to my husband doctor (after all of your advise of course) he said I would be a good candidate.  My DH is "all-clear" from what the dr. said so we'll see how this goes.  Appointment in about two weeks.  *~*Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for all of the prayers!*~*
  • My DS is a clomid baby :) We also went to the Center for Reproductive Medicine.

We had been TTC for 8 yrs ( our daughter is almost 15 yrs old). I had done rounds of clomid with an OBGYN that didn't monitor me, we had Urologist reports done, we did a Ob infertility specialist and then finally went to CRM and the second round clomid/hcg trigger/2 IUI's and progesterone (low dose) I was pregnant. That ended in a m/c and we had to wait a few months and then out of no where on valentines day a weird AF started and we went back and started clomid did the same on everything except a higher dose of progesterone. Ended up with a beautiful boy born November 4th 2009 a year after I had my m/c to the day!

I have PCOS, we conceived our dd naturally no meds, but just ended up having issues after waiting 5 yrs to start ttc after her. I'm thankful everyday for this clinic and while i would love to conceive on my own now for our final LO I also don't mind going back to this clinic. The people are GREAT! Made me feel at home and comfortable every time I walked in.

Good Luck to you. I would also start charting and use fertilityfriend.com to track your temps. At least for about 2 months and then print the charts and bring them with you at your appointment wherever you end up going. It helps the docs. :)
