Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Just curious.....crying, fussiness, not sleeping

My son is now a week old and things have been fantastic.  He sleeps well and wakes up every three hours for us to change him and eat.  Is his personality just mellow or will I start seeing a change within the next couple of weeks?  I'm just wondering if things started getting rocky for you and when they did.   I have had people tell me that the hell starts at two weeks....just wondering what you ladies have experienced.

  • People are right.  I had a little angel that just ate, slept and pooped for 2 weeks.  Things are A LOT more challenging now.  The trade off is that now I get one 5 hour or so period of sleep, but the rest of the day is completely exhausting.

  • Mia was mellow from the start, still is,  and now at 6 weeks I would say 5 out of 7 days she's still a little peach.  She has her moments ... and they started around week 3 ... and usually accompany growth spurts. HTH
  • I would honestly say this is an "every baby is different" scenrio. I kept wondering when the fussiness would start myself and here we are at 10 weeks and DS is rarely fussy. Don't get me wrong, he fusses, but it's never anything I feel is out of control. So your LO might just be a calm baby. Of course now that we both said this, our tides might turn. ;-)
  • Our hell started at about a week...then it got better (we're at two weeks tomorrow) when we started figuring him out a bit more. After we initially got home, for a few days, we thought we had an angel...and for the most part he is, but we had a few really rocky days about a week ago.
  • Depends on the baby- mine has been very easy and he's about 2 1/2 months.  He rarely cries and when he does it's because he's hungry.  He gets sorta whiny which indicates he's tired.  Other than that, he "coos" and smiles a lot.  I have 3 friends with LO's around the same age as mine- of the 3 babies, only 1 became difficult (and very difficult at that) at the 2 week mark.  That lasted for a few weeks and then tapered off- now at 3 months he's a happy baby as well.

  • My son is almost 2 weeks old and the last three nights have been brutal - last night being the worst.  He won't settle at night and is spitting up like crazy (and peeing through every outfit he owns - very frustrating!).  My daughter was the same, so my experience is that the first week is better and week two things start getting difficult.  But hopefully that won't be your experience.
  • DD was relaxed and easy-going from day one, and it never really changed.  She does fuss occasionally, but even on these infrequent occasions, she is soothed pretty quickly.

I think some babies are just mellow.  I'm sure we'll pay dearly for this "easy" kiddo with a really cranky one next time around.  :)

  • My first son was always a mellow baby -- he ate and slept, and that was about it for the first couple of months. He was so easy. Luckily, DS # 2 is off to a similar start :)   I think every baby is different in this regard.

  • I should clarify that my kid is far from "hell".  He's good most of the time but since he's awake more and aware of the world he needs to be entertained when he's awake and naps aren't as long as they were the first couple weeks.

  • He'll broke loose at our house on day 10 when the GERD kicked it. It was many miserable weeks for everyone including DD until we got it under control.
  • I hope you are lucky like we are!  DS started out very mellow and happy and 5 weeks later is still the same!  I'm praying that all hell doesn't break loose one of these days :)  We had a couple of bad days when his formula didn't agree with him but switched and he's back to normal again.  Good luck!

I know I'm only at 6 weeks, but I think this might be us too.
  • DS is not much of a crier, but fussiness/not sleeping started around 4-5 weeks for us.  We think we might be seeing it taper at 7wks but it's hard to say for sure.
