I want to send flowers to my friend because her father-in-law died -- I was shocked when I looked online. They're so expensive! It looks like I'll have to spend at least $60 to get something decent. Anyone had a better experience?
I always send flowers and yes, they are expensive. Instead of ordering online, I call a florist in the metro area (I have a particular one I use here in Mpls) and have them deliver. I set the price limit and have them do artist's choice with whatever colors/textures/particulars I want. When my best friend from college lost her dad last year, I actually went to that local board on the knot for florist recommendations and then called her local florist and had them deliver.
It's the thought that counts, you are a good friend!
Another idea is to send an edible bouquet -- either to the house, if they will be having lots of people in and out, or to the church, if they are having food after the service. My sister sent one to my brother's in-law's house when their grandson died last month. I know they loved it. And loved that they didn't have to transport it from the church.
As a florist, I do this everyday. You could send a plant with fresh flowers added or just the plant it self is just fine. To keep costs lower, you should called the local florist to place the order and tell them how much you want to spend and they will work w/ you and give you the best ideas for your money. Hopefully this helps some. Cuz yes, flowers are expensive and if you want something half way decent is anywhere from $50 on up. Plants are sometimes the better way to go, cuz they live, flowers will just die in a few days. Good luck
