Documentation for Air Travel

We will be flying next weekend with DS and we purchased him a seat.  What documentation will we need to have for him?

TIA

Re: Documentation for Air Travel

  • I've flown recently with DS in his own seat and the only thing I needed was his passport for the international parts.  You shouldn't need anything for him aside from his boarding pass.

  • If flying nationally, then, just his birth certificate.

Can it be a copy or does it have to be the original?

I would call the airline and check.  Curly and I are flying next week and I have to bring his birth certificate.

  • When I rode with DS in my lap, I didn't bring anything for him.  It was just within the US.

I always bring the original with...they may or may not ask for the birth certificate.  The one time I didn't bring it along, I was asked for it...but, luckily they let us fly.  Safe travels :)

  • Each individual airline has their own protocol.  We flew with DS.. he had his own seat and didn't need any documentation on Continental.

  • We just flew and didn't bring any documentation.  I told DH we needed to bring something, but he refused. Well, we got an earful from the southwest check in ladies!  They said to have a copy of the birth certificate or immunization records to prove her age.  DH was like "but she doesn't even have teeth!  She's clearly NOT two."  Lol.  They still let us on, but you might get chastised, haha.
