lactation consultants in NOVA?

Hi --

I'm pregnant with my second child.  I had issues breastfeeding my first and not much support from family/friends, and wound up quitting early on and switching to formula.  I would really like to work harder at it with this child and hopefully be successful and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for lactation consultants in the area?  Also, how much do they typically charge, if you don't mind sharing that info?  I just want to be prepared in case I have similar issues this time around and want to be more proactive in getting help/advice.

 Thanks!

Re: lactation consultants in NOVA?

  • Where are you planning on delivering?  I delivered at Fair Oaks and love the lactation ladies there - very helpful and patient.

  • I agree with PP re Fair Oaks - except for when it comes to pumping.  They kinda handed me a pump and expected to figure it out.  Which I'm sure I could have done if I wasn't in the midst of worrying sick about my baby not eating and the oncoming snowmaggedon.  Throughout my ordeal I went to NOVA lactation in Fairfax.  https://www.nvlcbaby.com/

  • I used Fair oaks also....they were very helpful and though we had to ultimately go go pumping as well, they did show me how to use it:-)

    Congrats and good luck!!!

  • I'm delivering at Fairfax which is where I delivered my first.  I wasn't greatly impressed with the LC there, but then again, I was totally overwhelmed with having a baby so maybe the second time around I'll be better able to ask the right questions and get the help I need.  I'll check out the link above too.  Thanks ladies!

  • I met w/Josie at NOVA Lactation and she was a godsend.  I think it was about $85/hr to meet in their office and it was worth every penny.  I didn't care for the LCs I met with at the hospital at all (VHC) and prob would've give up if I didn't have the one on one help.  GL!
