Postpartum Depression

Its official...I have PPD

Hi Ladies,

Its funny. I started lurking a bit on this board a few months back thinking "No, its just baby blues" then "No, its just lack of sleep" or "No its just adjusting my thyroid meds". Yeah well I guess the whole time I knew it was something more. Doctor confirmed it and I am now on Lexapro. Hope it works. I am looking forward to being myself if not immediately at least sooner than later. TIA for any advice or support that you offer. I am glad there is a place I can share!

  • Best Advice....... tell people close to you and accept help. BUT most importantly DONT be hard on yourself. It is nothing any of us did and its just hormones and chemicals. Things will get better. Welcome and kudos for admitting you needed help. Most women wont

  • Did your OBGYN diagnose you? or did you have to go to another doctor? I too, have been lurking denying that I have PPD but I think I have finally come to terms with it - I have it. My next Post pregnancy doctor's apt is August 24th should I wait until then or go sooner?

You sound JUST like me. I always made excuses--lack of sleep, stress from work, in a bad mood, I'm hungry. Every excuse in the book for my thoughts, behavior, and moods. Finally I had to suck it up and admit to myself that it was much deeper than that. I'm proud of us! Hope you start feeling like yourself again soon.

I ended up just making an appt. with my general care doctor. But you can always move your obgyn appt. up! GL!

  • I guess we all have a little denial! I am proud of us, too :)

  • Personally my GP knows more than my OB practice. Only because the deal more with drugs and depression. Wish I had gone there first
  • I've been on lexapro before (now on celexa) and both are a super mild drug and work well. Good luck.
  • Great news!  I think many of us questioned whether or not we really needed help until we KNEW that we needed help.  I have to say that you're doing the right thing.  Jacob and I are doing so wonderfully since I admitted that there was a problem and started getting help!

This is the start of a whole new you!  :)
