XP: Baby Clothes (Popping in from 3rd Tri)

I am getting LOs closet together & want to start washing clothes...BUT  my dilemma is that I have a TON of 3 mos/0-3 mos clothes which is great, but not very much newborn sizes.  My mom & I were at BRU yesterday & were debating how many more items I should get in newborn size.

2nd time mommies, how many newborn outfits do I really need?  I don't want to get too many b/c I know they will be outgrown fairly quickly, but I want to get enough so I am not doing laundry every 5 minutes!

FYI - In newborn sizes, I have (2) 5 packs of short sleeve onesies, 4 long sleeve onesies, 3 long sleeve sleeper onesies & about 5 outfits (sleepers, etc)

All advice is welcome since I am clueless! lol!  TIA!

  • You have plenty newborn sizes.  You will find yourself doing a ton on laundry no matter how many clothes your LO has.

Definitely this.  Also, your LO may be too big for the NB sizes right out of the gates, I wouldn't buy any more NB sizes, I think you have plenty!

  • I don't have much advice, except for don't go too crazy buying a bunch of stuff, and if you do, don't take the tags off of everything!

We didn't get much newborn stuff, which ended up being great because LO was 11lbs when he was born, and most brands didn't ever fit him.  But I of course took the tags off everything and washed it all, so I can't bring it back for bigger sizes.

It's really hard to gauge how much you'll need without knowing for sure how big the baby will be.

Batman likes to watch cartoons on the weekends. Whatever.

  • My LO was in newborn stuff for about three weeks.  Looking at the list of stuff you have I personally wouldn't buy to much more until the baby comes.  You never really know what they will fit into and you do so much laundry anyway....you probably have enough

  • Lil was 6 lbs 9 oz and she wore NB for a month

Owen was 8 lbs 14 oz and he wore NB for two weeks

I think you will do fine with what you have. You can always have someone run out and get something if you absolutely need it later, ya know? That will be easier than buying too much and having to deal with returning it.

I do hope that LO doesn't come out more than 8 pounds!

I do laundry every couple days and I still had enough clothes.  Baby mostly lived in nb sleepers for the first few weeks.

Also he was 8 pounds 4 oz

  • I personally ended up having to go buy MORE NB (im not telling you to buy more, just my expierence :) ) . I didnt buy much because ppl told me I wouldnt need it, she would outgrow it too fast etc. DD was 7lb 12 oz at birth, 21 1/4 in and barely fit into newborn, most of the outfits etc were too big. She is now 7 weeks and still wears some newborn, but could solidly fit into 0-3 around 1 month. Same with newborn diapers, we only had 2 small packs because I kept hearing you dont need too many, she was in NB diapers for the same amount of time and we had to buy more.

I do agree that you never know until your LO is born, and all makers the sizes can run big or small... You could always buy what you think you will need, but dont wash it or take tags off until your sure you will need it....

Good luck, sounds like you have a great start :)

This. I wish had more NB sized clothing for DD.

  • My LO was 7lbs. 9 oz. and 20 inches long at birth. He is now 21 inches and 8lbs. 6oz. and still fits in newborn clothes and size 1 diapers. He somehow never fit in newborn diapers. LOL

We ended up going out and getting lots of newborn size pajamas and onsies because the 0-3 did not fit and are still long on him.

I have 6 nb pajamas, 7 onsies, 1 short sleeve shirt, 1 long sleeve shirt and 2 pants. I wash laundry daily because he pees and his diaper leaks or spits up on them.

  • My LO was 8lbs 2oz when he was born and he was in NB clothes for the first month. He mostly lived in sleepers and onsies as they were the easiest to change him in. It sounds like you have a good stash but if you want to get more of something in NB size I would suggest sleepers.
  • If you have Gerber clothes, they run small.  0 - 3 mos = newborn; 3 - 6 mos = 3 - 6mos.

  • My daughter is just now outgrowing her NB clothes and she is 7 weeks.  We only had 6 NB outfits/onesies.  We were fine.  She just wore 0-3 month jammies or 0-3 month tees under her swaddlers.  All of her NB clothes were gifts.  My mom bought 3 when we were in the hospital, we got 2 at a shower and one from the ILs at week 2.  While it is important for the princess to look fabulous when she has visitors, it wasn't important when it was just the two of us.

  • DD was born 8lbs2ozs and 20inches and wore NB for 8wks.

DS was born 9lbs2ozs and 21inches and wore NB for 1wk.

  • New born was big on both DS and DD when they were first born. DS was 7'11 and he was in newborns for about a month. DD was 7'4 and she is just now growingout of newborn and 0-3 and that is mostly cause she is so tall.(She is currently 23')

  • you actually have a lot of newborn stuff.  My DD was 8lb3oz at birth & she only fit in newborn stuff for a couple weeks.  She never ever wore the "outfits".  She still lives in onesies mostly.  Anyway, people tend to gift you stuff right after baby is born & most of that was newborn sized for me.

  • DS was 8lb 11 oz and 21 in when he was born.  He only wore NB for about 2 weeks.  IMO it sounds like you have enough NB clothes.  DS is now 13lb 5oz and 23 in and is out of 0-3 months clothes too.

Uh Oh!  I actually got the packs of onesies & sleepers I got were newborn size!  Maybe I should just stick to washing the onesies I received from my aunt that dont have a receipt & some of the 0-3 months for now!
