Parenting after a Loss

Mothers with lactose intollerant LO's...

How did you know that was your problem? I've looked up some of the symptoms LO would show, and she has a few, but they could also be attributed to other things. What was the "big" symptom that you noticed, that definitely said,
"Yup, my child is lactose intollerant" ? Also, she is still incredibly gassy, even after changing the bottles she's using to ones that help prevent gas, and she's gassy with both BM and formula. ( I have to supplement because of low output) Any thoughts?

  • When they are that little, they usually aren't considered lactose intollerant, it's actually a sensitivity/allergy to the milk proteins (which are different than the lactose in dairy).  There really isn't a way to tell for sure, but it's probably more likely that your LO is just gassy as her body tries to figure out how to digest milk.  The big one I was told to look for was blood in the stool, and that if that occurred to talk to the doc.

This. Lactose intolerance is exceedingly rare in infants. Sounds like a normal newborn :)

  • Thank you for your responses ladies, hopefully she'll just outgrow it, and it's definitely something I'm going to bring up at her next appt.
