SO MY HUBBY TOOK THE CIVIL SERVICE TEST FOR MA IN JUNE AND GOT A 93, HE DOES HAVE VETERAN STATUS FROM THE MARINES AS WELL, BUT THERE ARE A FEW THOUSAND PEOPLE HE IS UP AGAINST......ANYONE BEEN THRU THIS PROCESS? HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOUR GUY?
Well, DH is a firefighter not a police officer, but, it took him about a year and a half to get on with a professional fire department. And he had been a volunteer for about 3 years at that point.
not my DH but my sister is, and it took her about a year and a half to get accepted into the academy.
my lil bro is going through the process as well, and I don't know how it is in your state, but CA budgets have been cut so dramatically that the people who do the background checks are so overwhelmed that my bro was just told his check probably wouldn't even BEGIN for another 9 months. sooo, hopefully your state is in better shape and it won't be such a lenghty process.
My DH is NYPD so he didn't go the civil service route but i think it was only a few months from the time he took the test till the time he was accepted to the academy.

My DH is a Deputy Sheriff (same as a police oficer) now but when he originally applied with BPD just like NYPD he only had to take a test and was in the academy w/in a few months. We were originally from NJ and he tried the whole civil service route and like your DH he did awsome on the test he had a degree in criminal justice(top of his class) but NJ is soo "connected" that he tried for 2 + years with no luck so he started looking in other states. thats how he ended up working for BPD. It was a scary moving to a new state for him to become an officer but its all he ever wanted so we moved.
My DH is and took it him about a full year and a half to go through the whole process. Waiting for an opening, interviewing, testing, more waiting... Its a long process, but well worth the wait

I'm not married to one but I work at a police department and we usually give a new test every 1 1/2 - 2 years after we've exhausted the last list.
The process is long, just for my position it took over 6 months before they filled it, and the officers are more in depth obviously. We all go through psych exams, physicals, interviews, background checks, polygraph tests and more interviews.
Re: ANYONE MARRIED TO A POLICE OFFICER?
