Hi there. I'm from the U.S.A. There is a good chance my husband is going to be offered a job in Toronto. I was wondering what the cost of living is in Canada & or Toronto?
It will totally depend on where you live. Toronto is expensive. When I lived there I had an apartment (like 500 sqft) and it cost me $1400/month. Insane. I also lived an hour outside of the city (Oakville) in a townhouse (I had the main floor and basement) and paid $900/month.
There are area's outside of Toronto that you can live in that have easy access into the city.
If you can give some idea of where you may want to live (based on where he is working) it will be easier to give you an idea of the costs.
Tax is expensive up here (13%) so keep that in mind too.
Living in the downtown core of Toronto is not only expensive, but really inconvenient and hard to get around. I have been in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) since I was 6 years old and I still feel anxious about going downtown.
You can easily find a place in the suburbs w/ a fairly easy commute to Toronto. It all depends on where you are being transferred to.
I previously lived in Vaughan, and was paying $700 a month for a 600sq/ft 1 bedroom, not including parking or utilities. Right now I live in a 1200sq/ft 1 bedroom in Mississauga, and we pay $1100 utilities included and parking as well. The farther away from downtown you go, the cheaper it gets!
