hungry ALL the time?

i know there is a 3wk growth spurt but i thought those only lasted 2-3 days.

this entire week, he's acted famished despite us upping his formula intake by 6-7oz/day (the higher end of ranges we've seen for his age). we try to feed on demand but he'll act hungry an hour after gobbling down 3oz.  (I try swaddling, offering pacifier, rocking, checking diaper, etc. to make sure he's really hungry & the fussing or fish-faces aren't for another reason).

what's the deal?  I don't want him to starve but I also don't want to overfeed him.

I'm going to see if we can stop by the pedi office this weekend to have him weighted.

Re: hungry ALL the time?

  • I swear DS' 3-week spurt lasted a week

  • Ok, that makes me feel better.  All the books & websites I've found say 2-3 days which was a few days ago and making me feel like I was doing something wrong!
  • Yeah, the 3 week growth spurt was miserable.  Definitely a week to possibly 2 weeks for us.  Although, the entire month is essentially a growth spurt anyway... :)

If he's eating a full bottle, not spitting it back up, and asking for more, go ahead and give it to him.

  • I swear the first 6 weeks of his life my DS was in a growth spurt and hungry all the time! I was mainly breastfeeding (supplementing with an ounce or 2 a day of formula) and he was constantly nursing it felt like. I remember talking to a friend (who was also a lactation consultant) about it and she said its pretty typical, one big growth spurt for a lot of babies.
