Mamas: Peri care question

OK, experienced mamas, a couple questions about "down there":

1) When can I stop using the peri bottle and revert to good only plain TP?  I had a second degree tear with stitches and hemorrhoids that the doc described to my DH's amusement as "raisins, not grapes."

2) When do the stitches dissolve?

 Thanks!

Re: Mamas: Peri care question

  • Not sure about the stitches, but as for tp, I say whenever you feel up to it!  I think I used the peri bottle when I was still having heavy spotting (maybe for like 2 weeks?), then pay dry with the tp.

Slow and easy, that's what I recommend ;)

  • I think once you feel ready to try without you definitely should.I used mine for quite awhile because I was nervous it would hurt or tear or something bad.

I think stitches dissolve in 2 weeks.

  • Thanks!

  • I used the peri bottle forever!   my recovery time was pretty rough however.    Stitches are supposed to dissolve between 3 and 4 weeks.  I still had some at 8 weeks, not sure exactly when they went away though.

  • I didn't have hemis, but I had a 3rd degree tear with # 1 and a small tear this time around. The first time, I used the peri bottle for much longer (about 4 wks) whereas this time I used it for only a few days. I would say if you are wondering about it, it's probably a good time to give it a try. You can always go back to the peri bottle if it doesn't feel right.

I'm not sure about the stitches but I noticed mine falling out after a couple weeks. I think it depends on the person though because a friend of mine still had some stitches that hadn't dissolved yet at her 6wk appt.

8 weeks seems crazy!  I guess we'll see.  Thanks, everyone.  I think I may try blotting, but have the peri bottle there for back up.  :)
