Expressed Breast Milk

If my LO partial finishes a bottle that was refrigerated and warmed once, how long is the balance good being left out at room temperature?

And it is true that this balance should not be put back into the refrigerator?

Thanks!

Re: Expressed Breast Milk

  • Some people will say to throw it out immediately but BM isn't known to cause any harm to be reused within 4 hours if it stays out in room temp, some people even say up to 8 hours but I wouldn't wait that long. You can always re-heat but the more you heat it up the more nutrients it loses, so just leave it out at room temp.

  • I am pretty sure that since LO touched the nipple, the bottle has to be finished within an hour. Someone please correct me if I am wrong? I think I asked this ? before and got this answer.

that's the rule with formula but not with BM.

We go in for the "it's ok to offer that bottle at the next feeding" rule unless it's overnight. Or if it smelled off, but that's never happened.

ETA: We do put the bottle in the fridge, though - DD doesn't care if the milk is cold.
