Transverse baby is now breech

Dangit!  She was transverse at my appointment 2 weeks ago, and I was SURE she had turned.  I've been feeling what I thought was her butt up in my ribs for the last week or so, so I thought we were good.  Nope!  What I thought was her butt is actually her head, and the little stinker is fully breech now.  I've been doing everything our Bradley instructor and our doula recommended: knee-chest position, side lying position, pelvic rocks, and my chiropractor has done the Webster technique on me twice in the last week.  I'll keep doing what I've been doing, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

If she's still breech at my appointment next week, we'll start talking version and/or c-section, and obviously neither is something I want :(

(my OB doesnt do breech vaginal deliveries, and even if she did, I dont think it's something I'd be comfortable with.  So that's not an option)

Re: Transverse baby is now breech

  • Acupuncture and someone on the natural board talked about using peppermint oil on your belly to turn them.  You could look into those.  Sometimes there's a legit reason for them being breech, which I hope isn't the case for you!  Good luck!

  • What PP said and also I've read that moxibustion is very effective (a form of traditional Chinese medicinethat involves burning a moxa (mugwort) stick near a certain point on the small toe of the foot).

  • Even though I'm earlier on, my baby was fully breech a week ago.  My acupuncturist did not even do the moxibustion - just some other points to "suggest" that the baby turn (since I still have time).  Around 2 am that night, I felt the baby do a complete flip!  Now he/she is head down and in a great position!  So, YES, to acupuncture!

Also, I've heard that swimming across the pool and then just diving straight down has turned some babies...

    GL!

  • I did the peppermint oil (along with other things) and that's what i think made the baby turn. Baby was breech when I went to bed after putting the oil on my belly and in the morning he/she was head down. I didn't find anything really on it online, but a friend who is very much into natural meds/remedies suggested it to me. I was desperate so I tried it - so glad I did!! This happened at 38.5w pg so you still have time!!

I also did the pelvic rocking, body inversion and did handstands in the swimming pool.

  • Check out the website www.spinningbabies.com - I've heard lots of good things about it, and recently my good friend used it to get her boy to turn from transverse to head-down at 36 weeks.  Good luck!
  • Keep the faith - my daughter turned at 37 weeks :) I did the accupuncture and I do recommend it.  I also found a chiropractor that did the webster technique and I think that is what actually turned her and I would highly recommend looking into that.  I used spinningbabies.com and the other gal that recommended it was right - there is tons of great info on there.  I did a bunch of the techniques - honestly just try as many as you can without going nuts.  I dont' know what it was that made her flip but trying several things and just staying positive and relaxing I think helped.  When she was born July 1st she had a super short cord - that maybe that same situation with your baby.  Sometimes they just take longer to get into the "launch position" :) best of luck to you!
  • I have a friend - no idea if this is actually a regularly recommended "thing" or not - she put headphones down her pants and played music to her crotch.  haha!
  • My SIL's baby was breech a week before her due date. Her midwife recommended she spend the majority of her day sitting/bouncing on an exercise ball. The gravity alone seems to have allowed her baby to flip and she delivered no prob.
  • Swimming helped turn my baby (at my midwife's advice).  The best things she said are going up where the water is past your shoulders and walking, then doing handstands.  We did this a bunch of times over a week and he turned!
