My husband has a business connection who we would really like to see him get more involved with. So, channelling Betty Crocker and Mad Men, we invited him to a dinner party along with a number of my wittiest colleagues who have children of similar ages, thinking all would get along nicely. I carefully picked a date and time after consulting with everyone invited and everyone enthusiastically accepted. I even booked our nanny to come and entertain the kids so I could be hostess without worrying about DD.
Yesterday, I went around to confirm, and all but one said "Well, I've been meaning to talk to you about that..." NOBODY IS COMING! They all have what I guess I would call legitimate sounding excuses, I don't actually think people are lying to try to get out of it.
Still, my efforts to further DH's career via elegant h'ors d'oerves and homemade desserts have been thwarted. Now I'm just depressed. And to top it off, I probably need to be working myself this weekend. So instead of throwing a party, I'm going to be slogging away. Ugh.
Re: 1952 Dinner party: Fail
Ugh! What a total downer! I hate putting so much work into something to see it smashed at the last minute.
Kinda like I how I can still remember some of the people who RSVPed "yes" to our wedding then didn't show..........6 years ago.....LOL!
I hope you get to do it another day!
That sucks - maybe you could just take them out to dinner instead?
YES! I still remember all of the people who RSVP'ed "yes" to our wedding and didn't show. It's like.. come on people.. I am paying like $50.00 a head for you, and you don't show!?
