s/o frozen foods - preping meals?

DH and I are trying to get some extra meals cooked and frozen before LO arrives. We are finding some things work better than others. What have you found that works really good to freeze now and have for after baby is home?

Re: s/o frozen foods - preping meals?

  • The only things I like cooked and frozen are soups, stews, and sauces so that's what I stick with!

  • We make individual meatloves, chili, marinated chicken breasts (a few different recipes), casseroles.  I'm trying a seasoned green bean recipe and maybe shepherd's pie this time.

Same here. As soon as it's a little cooler out I'll start cooking all of those things and getting them into the freezer. Probably in October.

  • My freezer is stocked with lasagna, chili, meatloaf, meatballs, homemade pasta sauce, marinated chicken, 40 clove garlic chicken, marinated wings, Indian chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, fresh veggies (blanch first, then freeze) and turkey burgers.

  • Here is what is in my freezer right now:

    - ton of pasta sauce

    - lasagnas (uncooked)

    - veggie and tofu soup

    - chili

    - enchiladas (uncooked, freezer recipe from MS)

    -  fish and veggie stew

All of those are usual freezer things for me except for the enchiladas, but it was a specific freezer recipe so I'm guessing they'll be fine.

We are also buying frozen pizzas and other frozen prepared meals from the grocery store.  DH doesn't cook, and I know I won't be up for it the first couple of weeks.

  • I am hoping to finish up this task today.  So far I have chicken enchiladas, cheese enchiladas, lasagna, chicken alfredo, and black eyed pea casserole.  I also bought several pre-seasoned pork tenderloins that will be easy to throw on a baking sheet and put in the oven.  Then I got tons of crock pot friendly seasoning packets and frozen chicken breasts and chunk roasts to throw in the crock pot for the day.

Overall, I wanted to cook at all while pregnant, something about looking at raw meats has made me feel ill.  So, I am hoping that I will even want to eat home cooked goodness after LO arrives.
