spiders everywhere! ugh

my boyfriend & i have killed numerous amounts of spiders in our apartment since we've lived here. but last night went a little too far. my boyfriend got bitten by a spider on his forearm and was very freaked out about the fact that that could have been his baby being bitten (if she was here already that is) soon after he was bitten we killed yet another spider a little bigger than the size of a quarter, so he called the apartment manager at 1am this morning & she said she would have people come and spray, i got to talking this afternoon to one of the guys that keeps up with the apartments and he told me that the landlord was not going to do anything because she said my boyfriend was drunk. ONLY BECAUSE THE FACT THAT HE CALLED AT 1AM THIS MORNING. wow, really shes not going to do anything because she said he was drunk, he was very much sober, he was just pissed and wanted to let her know about the spider bite and infestation asap. what do you think i should do?

  • call her back and tell her she has to take care of the problem, whether your boyfriend was drunk or not. Let her know he wasn't, but that its the law for her to take care of a pest problem and you have a  baby on the way. If she doesn't send someone over, send her another note in writing saying you've asked to to fix the issue and she hasn't, so you're asking again...and then if THAT doesn't do anything call the city or whatever housing tribunal you have in your area and report her.

  • Yikes, sounds like a peach of a landlord. I hope you guys get it figured out. If it makes you feel any better, we can't get rid of mice. We have traps everywhere and they get in the drawers. We even keep our silverware in the fridge to prevent having to wash them over and over again. We've tried everything...it's our crappy house. I am soooo ready for spring when we start building our home.

  • By law she is required to take care of it. Period.

Let her know that he was NOT drunk but that he had just been bit and had had enough at that point. Let her know that you know she legally has to take care of it and that if she doesnt, you will bring it up with the authorities.

  • I totally agree with previous posts and you need to talk to the landlord and if that doesn't work go to local housing authorities.

I realize your problem may be way beyond this but it could help a little while working with your wonderful landlord.  I hate spiders - HATE.  We were having a lot of issues with them in our house a couple years ago.  I did some research and discovered that spiders "taste" through their feet and they don't like the taste of lemons.  Every spring and fall I take straight lemon juice, add a little water, take a rag and rub down all the heating vents, window sills, door jams, anywhere that I think a spider might crawl through. I also use lemon pledge and lemon cleaning supplies for bathroom floors, countertops and showers/tubs throughout the year.

We do still occasionally get spiders but nothing like we used to.  I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but it might be worth a shot?
