At what age did you start taking your LO out to public places?

I want to go to lunch with friends next week and LO will be 3 weeks old...too soon to take her to a restaurant?

1 1/2 weeks to a quieter restaurant, but soon after that to the grocery store. You should be fine.

I've been taking the baby out since the first week! We've gone out to eat a few times (i prefer to sit at an outdoor place) and I've taken her to Duane Reade a few times. Other than that, we try to take daily walks around the neighborhood. Just be prepared with blankets, sunshade and/or rain cover for the change in weather. She loves being outside and she falls asleep as soon as we start pushing the stroller.

I took DS to a restaurant for a friend's birthday at 8 days old.

By 3 weeks he was everywhere. The park, the mall, restaurants, grocery stores.

If your worry is people touching him, simply ask people not to touch him. No one had even touched/held my baby except me and DH until just a few days ago. If asking people not to touch, or to wash hands first makes you uncomfortable or awkward, remember you are your child's advocate. You're doing it for her.

I waited a week and then we went on a small outing -- visited DH at work and went to a friend's house for about 30 minutes.

Our first restaurant excursion will be at 2 weeks.

I say take them out ASAP, while they still nap in loud places - lol.

We took DD out at 5 days old.

That first week. I had to get out of the house (had been on bedrest for a while before having her). By now, I think she's eaten out more times in her life than I did during my entire childhood!

DD was only a few days old the first time we took her out. Thats because the hospital was 1 1/2 hours from home and we were hungry.

DD1, about a week.

DD2 - went Christmas shopping the day after I was discharged.

DD3- I took all 3 girls to an indoor playpark at 1 week.

Since week 1, I was first worried about the public, but people have been pretty good and respectful (no one has tried to touch LO). We take LO to the store and he's already traveled via car, bus, and rail.
