NER: BM storage question

I also posted this on 0-6 mo. board, but thought I'd ask here too.

Is it ok to save leftover breast milk from a morning bottle for later that day, or do you need to toss it?  Also, how much should I expect my 8 week old to eat in a sitting?  TIA.

Re: NER: BM storage question

  • You are not technically supposed to but I know people (cought...DH...cough) who do that occasionally when it looks like he is going to waste a good bit.
  • Loading the player...
  • i think it's fine, but you are technically not supposed to reheat it. kellymom.com has all the guidelines for bm storage.
  • ditto pp, you technically aren't supposed to do this. But we put it back in the fridge and use it later.
  • i used to keep it... just put it back in the fridge and use it within 24 hours and it should be ok... they don't recommend re-using any milk after its been used during a feeding since the bacteria from the babies mouth has infected the milk and can grow some harmful stuff... but i've never had a problem and my DD has a super sensitive tummy.
