This would work, right? NBR

I eat oatmeal with berries every morning for breakfast.  To save time when I go back to work next week I was thinking of making big batches, cooling it, adding berries and then freezing individual servings to pop in my work bag for when I get there.  You can freeze oatmeal, can't you?

  • you CAN but, I hate the consistency of even cooked, then put in the fridge and then re-warmed oatmeal.

    Blah.

What about making it in the microwave at work.

You could pack a tupperware container, with some oats/berries. Add water, microwave and you are good.

I used to do this at work.

  • Hmm, I wonder what the texture would be like when it thawed?

  • Hmm..maybe I'll do a trial this weekend :)  I use the steel cut oatmeal, which requires low cooking for 30 minutes so the microwave wouldn't work.

what about if you do the overnight soak method?

Then it is less cooking because I use these as well sometimes.

  • I make oatmeal (not steel cut, but not instant either) on the stove top and then just let it cool and put it in small tupperware containers in the fridge for the week...take one to work each day and microwave it for a minute and add some milk.  I don't see why you would freeze it though?  It should be fine in the fridge for 5 days!

Good to know that you keep it in the fridge for 5 days.  I wasn't sure if it would get funky.  I really only want to have to do it on Sunday nights and that's it :)
