heavy feeling in chest...anyone else?

Let me preface this by saying that I am in no way looking for advice to substitute that of my dr's...just sorta curious what other's exp were.

So this afternoon when dd napped I tried to lay down myself and started to feel this heaviness in my chest.  I am not really short of breath but I feel like there is an elephant sitting on my chest and breathing is not as easy as it was.  This was an hr ago, (and I sat up right away) and it is not getting any better.

This happened last time I was pg w/ my daughter and the dr sent me to the hosp right way, turns out it sounded like a pulm. embolism and they did all sorts of tests (inc a vq scan, that made me very nervous b/c it is radiation) all to determine that it was simply my body adjusting to the extra blood flow of the baby.  I do not want to go through that again =(

So would you call the dr if you were 99% sure it was nothing or would you call and go through the whole ordeal again?

Ok, I know this sounds stupid and I know what I need to do...just venting I guess...thanks for reading.

Re: heavy feeling in chest...anyone else?

  • Are you seriously posting this here?

You've potentially had a life threatening pulmonary embolism in the past and may be having one again and you're posting it on the internets?

Yes, I'd call the doctor and go through it again. PE's can kill you.

    Now get off the computer.

  • um ladies, thanks, I did call as I (perhaps, not so clearly, indicated at the end of my post) and regardless of how urgent it may be, they still take time to call you back.  I am posting to try keep my mind off it and not to freak out.  I appreciate your feedback.
