Did you start taking them right away or later on in your pregnancy?
I guess I could wait for this afternoon to talk to my OB, but I just wanted to get your take on what you did. I am finally going in to see my normal OB today which was my first schedualed apointment from the very beginning (I have been seeing another doctor for my first couple of appointments) to go over my ultrasounds and to go over all my questions that I have for my doctor. I was starting to get worried for a minute there that I would never get to see my regular doctor. I certainly feel more at ease with her than I did with the other lady.
Re: For those of you who took DHA with your prenatal vitamins...
I was taking a multi v & folic acid when we started TTC. When i got my BFP, I called the dr & scheduled an appt for about a month later. She told me to stop by and pick up a bunch of samples so I could make sure I liked one of them. When I actually went in for my appt, she gave me a Rx for prenatals which included a separate DHA pill. I had read Dr. Oz recommended something like 600 mg of DHA but my prenatal only had about 300. I told her I wanted more & she told me to also take Expecta. So I take prenatals with lunch & then the Expecta with dinner.
So very long answer to your question, yes, I started taking DHA & prenatals pretty much from the very beginning.
these are the prenatals I take https://www.citranatal.com/Product/CitraNatal-Assure.aspx
expecta https://www.enfamil.com/app/iwp/enfamil/productDetail.do?dm=enf&id=/Consumer_Home2/Enf_Products/ForMoms&iwpst=B2C&ls=0&csred=1&r=3459087599
I started a little later - a few months in. I didn't realize I needed it until I read about it here - my OB never said anything.
I started right away.
I was taking DHA prior to getting pregnant, but my OB advised me to stop the separate pill and only to take the prenatal that already had DHA in it. Her reason was that too much DHA can be toxic to a developing fetus, and the levels in the prenatals are considered safe for baby. My separate dose was about twice as much. (This advice seems to be different than some ladies mentioned, so it's probably worth asking your own OB about)
I haven't heard about synthetic dna (which I am not even sure if mine is or isn't) but I have heard some mercury concerns about fish dha. I know the dha in my expecta & prenatals is plant derived. I am sure it is all okay, but something to look into/ask your dr about either way.
I started taking this prenatal + DHA when we started TTC and have continued taking it throughout my pregnancy. This particular brand was recommended by my OB. I buy them at my local Costco.
ETA: I should point out that the OB didn't tell me I had to take DHA while TTC. I was taking PNVs a couple of months before TTC. When we actually began TTC, I ran out of my PNVs and ended up buying the PNV + DHA because it was the only one sold at Costco at the time.

I bought the strawberry ones from Nordic, and I think I was just super sensitive due to my ongoing m/s but the fish oil underneath it still made me sooooo sick, so I stopped taking it after the first time I tried it. I can handle it now though. If you have any bit of nausea, I'd be cautious of anything with fish oil. But if you don't, then it should be just fine. Or you can always save it for when you BF (if you plan to do so) because the nausea will be gone by then and you still need the DHA.
