Fetal heartrate is showing up on the doppler, but I can't hear it!

I have been trying to hear the heartrate on my doppler at home and a heartrate has shown up on the screen (usually 135-145) but I'm not hearing the heart beating. Is this normal? I just cant wait to hear the little heartbeat we heard at the doctor's office!!

  • i had the same problem with the doppler the dr uses when i was 10w5d  .but . we could hear it on the ultrasound. My dr told me that it maybe too early for to hear it on the doppler and that she would try again at 14w .... so i dont think u have anything to worry about ...

  • I think it's too early for home doppler. I think I remember hearing 11 + weeks before people could hear it.
  • Mine did that to me the other day. I'm not sure what it was picking up but when you get to the baby you will definitely know. I was way off but it was picking up something. I went right above my pelvic bone and dug in pretty good and there was no mistaking the heartbeat and the bpm matched exactly what the ultrasound showed a few days ago. Sometimes it takes a while because you are so early along but just keep trying! You'll get the hang of it. If you can stand it, you could wait a few weeks so baby will be bigger too!

I remember at one of my Dr appointments for DD she was moving the doppler around and I was like "oh, there's the heartbeat" and she told me that it was actually the cord- apparently it makes its own little noise.

The displays are weird.  Mine will pick up anything.  I can fun it over my pillow.  It just tracks sound, so if you're moving the wand much it will find sound.

That makes sense! Because i knew it wasn't it but wondered what that could be. Then there was no mistaking when i found it! Thanks for your response so now i know! :)
