I need to buy a new carseat for my parents car. They live in Indiana, and we only go there a couple times a year, so I don't want to spend a huge amount of money. I know there are good ones besides the super expensive ones we have at home. What do you have in your parents/in-laws cars?
Re: good, cheap, convertable carseats?
I've seen this seat recommended on this board before (filed it away for the future!) and it is a decent deal right now! We plan to get one for DCP when DS outgrows the infant seat.

Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!
My favorite money saving tip: I've earned more than $300 in gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Southwest!) using SwagBucks for internet searching - and you can too! It's FREE and EASY!
this is what my mom has too
We have Evenflos' for our cars - they were about 120/each
We have this car seat currently in DH small accord. I may be picking up another one for my aunt's car.
do you fly to indiana?
Is there a reason you wouldn't just bring your seat along with you?
You can check a convertible car seat as luggage and it doesn't count as a checked bag. Also I know a lot of people swear by the little wheelie things that you use in the airport to convert the bigger carseats into a strollers, then you can just gate check the seat, or if there ends up being an extra seat on the plane you can put the LO in the carseat on the plane.
Keep in mind that once your LO is 2, you will need to buy a seat anyway. We just flew with DD this past weekend and had her in her convertible seat on the plane and it worked out great- she was super comfortable, etc.
Thanks everyone!
daisy- I had a whole reasoning written out here about why I don't want to buy another one to travel with. Then, I realized, even if I send one to my parents now, you're right, next year, we'll have to lug one back and forth, so the one they would be getting now will end up being an extra. Sigh. I don't want to lug around a carseat even though it is a guarantee that we'll have to in the near future. Thanks for bringing this up!
I thought it was going to be hellish traveling w/ 2, but it wasn't that bad- we brought the infant carrier for DS and checked it @ the counter, then stuck the convertible seat on top of our stroller (wish we had brought bungee cords to secure it, but we forgot them last minute.) It wasn't any harder to go through security or anything.
I know a lot of ppl love these things for travel - personally I would rather invest in one of these than buy an extra carseat that would rarely be used.
