Military Families

MFLC

Has anyone ever used a military family life consultant? I am thinking about making an appointment with one. When my daughter was 6 months old she was hospitalized with H1N1. For a long time I have had horrible guilt about the situation. Thinking about it rationally I know it wasn't my fault. I kept thinking if I hadn't taken her to daycare, if I didn't listen to the on base ped who sent us home 3 times before we ended up in the ER, etc. I feel at peace with the situation now, but when my daughter starts to get sick again I feel total panic again. I am not sure if the MFLC could offer a place to start, but I am pretty sure that I need to meet with someone to talk things out.

Re: MFLC

  • My husband and I each utilize their services frequently. I love them.

  • MFLCs provide short term therapy. Basically quick fixes as they say. Then cannot treat serious issues, and will refer you to someone else if the issue is too serious. Your issues sound perfect to be handle by an MFLC. The neat thing is they will meet you anywhere but your house. So you could meet at a play place for your child and sit and talk with the MFLC. They also offer child counseling and finical counseling. I think the program is an AMAZING idea, and whoever thought let's do this was genius. It helps behavioral health free up so those that actually have serious problems are seen. I also like the fact they write nothing down but your sex and age. The down fall is if you start with one and they are at the end of their rotation you will have to start all over again. If this does not sound like a program for you, you could contact a chaplain. HTH!!!
