I totally agree, a carrier is a much better option for hiking. With a stroller you are very limited on the walks (I don't think hiking involves stroller friendly trails) that you can do. For hiking with DS on my back my favorite carrier is the Ergo, I prefer a mei tai for wearing him on the front.

I think a good baby carrier that you can back carry with would be much better. I have lots of info in my siggy ;-)
If you want a hardcore hiking pack we have a kelty kids its pretty nice for hiking. My sister uses the kelty kids on her older son and I wear my DS in either a babyhawk or I just bought an ergo.
