Great way to keep baby happy on car rides!

I just discovered a way to keep DS from getting fussy on car rides since he's still rear facing in his infant seat and getting bored.  I bought a helium balloon and leave it loose in the car and open the windows a little while I drive, makes the balloon bounce around and he thinks it's the funniest thing in the world, keeps him distracted long enough to drive to the store!

  • Okay - I am going to be "Debbie Downer" but I thought balloons were no nos because of choking hazards?

And my caveat is that I am terrified of Matt choking.

I think choking is everyone's biggest fear now that the SIDS risk is pretty much over, however, I think that applies to balloons that aren't blown up...pretty hard to get a balloon the size of a basketball in DS's mouth! Plus when it's floating around in the car he can't even reach it.

  • Great idea.  Wonder if it's work with mylar and then it'd last longer and you can avoid latex - which I'd be more worried about than choking.

Actually I think this one is mylar, it's shiny, not like a normal balloon.  I bought it while I was waiting in line at the supermarket and DS was getting bored and fussy, they had a bunch of them by the checkout, probably for all the moms with infants ha!

  • You could alway's anchor it so baby can't reach it and it will still bob about in the breeze
