Baby Names

Last names as first name?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post - I've lurked for a while on these boards, and was looking for some help.  My husband and I are considering the following names, and are looking for some honest feedback.  Our last name is Fraser, and we're considering:

Edison Fraser (nickname could be Eddie) or

Anderson Fraser (nickname could be Andy).

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Last names as first name?

  • Eddie Frasier was the name of the cute little dog on the TV show Frasier, just throwing that out there.  Dog aside, I like the name Anderson a lot, but I am not a fan of Edison.

  • I don't like Edison, and I hate Eddie . I do like Anderson though, but not a fan of Andy. I really just hate NNs.

  • HATE Anderson unless it's a family name. Like Andrew.

Edison as a name I don't really like (far prefer Edward or Edmund), but at least you'd be naming him after SOMEONE -- Thomas Edison. Who is Anderson? It's just a stuffy waspy, upper-East Side name that a Vanderbilt Heiress pulled out of the ether and gave her child.

  • I would only use a last name as a first name if it were a family name.
  • If Edison or Anderson are family names for you or your husband then go for it. Otherwise these are ridiculous names. If you want a last name as a first name consider your maiden name or mother's maiden name, etc.

The dog's name was Eddie but the last name was Crane. I am a dork, I know. HAH

  • Hi i think Edison works the best out of the two.

Have you considered Harrison if you like the....son route and there is no family connection? Harrison Fraser sounds good....

  • Harrison is my maiden name and I would love to use it!

  • I don't mind either of them, although I don't care for Eddie as a nn.
  • I really like Anderson :)

  • Use whatever you like.  I used a surname as a first name, and neither my H or myself have any family ties to the name.  It suits my son perfectly and we love the name.  So if you love it, use it.
  • I like Anderson, but not Andy and detest Eddie so Edison is out.  I don't mind last names as first names even if there is no family tie.  Hmm....must be because the 2 names we have picked out could both be a last name with no family ties :-)
