Trouble getting LO to sleep

Elyse has learned to crawl, pull herself into a sitting position, pull up to a standing position and take a few steps while standing all in 4 days.  Now all she wants to do is practice.

So she's not sleeping at all.  I had to dig out the swing and buckle her in to get her to nap this morning.  All she wants to do is practice.  Every time I put her in her crib she screams like she's hurt herself (very hard on the heart).  But she's so so so tired.  She wouldn't go down until 10:30pm last night because she was so overtired and worked up.

Any suggestions?

Re: Trouble getting LO to sleep

  • Wow... You might just have to ride it out? Can you give Elyse some toys in her crib so that she can crawl around and play in her crib before falling asleep? We put 4 extra pacis in the crib and Alexa plays with those. She's also in a sleep sack, which makes it harder for her to crawl or stand up (she still can but doesn't very often). I think she knows that when she's in the sleep sack, it's time to sleep. Not sure if that is any help.. G/L!

  • is she standing in the crib crying? does she know how to sit back down after she stands up? a lot of babies will cry b/c they get stuck standing and can't get back down.... if she isn't having this problem then i'd say that you just have to ride it out...this happened with us right after miss A figured out how to pull herself to standing.... i ended up just letting her play until she fell asleep on her own, even it was much later than usual.  she'd seriously stand up, sit down. stand up, sit down. stand up, sit down. stand up, sit down....all she wanted to do was practice. so i let her :) she'd do it over and over until she got tired enough and then she'd curl up and go to sleep.

do you think she might be going through a little separation anxiety too? that is what we are dealing w/right now...

  • I wondered if she was going through some seperation anxiety as well.  The only place it happens is in her crib, so who knows.

I'm going to try putting her in her sleep sack to see if that helps.

    Thanks for the advice!
