Hi all.... High Strung Chili coming over from 6-9. DS is going to be 8 months old in a few days. He is currently "babbling", but its all vowel sounds, raspberries, squeals, screams, and this weird static noise. He doesnt make any consonant sounds (minus the occasional "guh") and definitely doesnt do the ba-ba-ba-ba-ba or dadada stuff.
My ped said this is normal, but after seeing otherb abies like 2 months younger than him calling their parents by name and reciting shakespeare articulately, I can't help but be obsessive (that and being a special ed teacher, my mind always goes to the worst)
You can tell me all you want that "every baby is different". Im still gonna be a moron about this. Some of you remember me from earlier on 6-9 when I was freaking out that Kai wasnt sitting. Now he sits like a champ. I realize the irony.
So please, someone out there, tell me that your kid was only making vowel movements at 8 months and now is babbling like a champ. Someone? Anyone? Please?
Re: babbling worry - calm me down :)
My baby has been making vowel movements since early on.
Your kid is fine..your post is a mess.
This. Mine has said mama, dada (both in context), "ba" (which means about 6 different things) in the past but currently is only interested in the word "gog". So, the 8th grade reading list we were going to work on this summer is out.
I like your style. Your kid is fine.
Im fully aware. My apologies
DD didn't start babbling until around 11 months. That's right, 11 months! I don't even think she was making many vowel sounds at 8 months. And she's a girl and you hear all this stuff about how boys are the ones to talk later. I worried every day, all day. My mind would go to every worst case scenario. Now she babbles pretty frequently throughout the day; mostly babababa, yayayaya and dadada (no mama. boo!). I'm almost positive she said "dada" in context this morning (DH didn't think so though). I still worry though because I know she's still behind, but I'm just trying to take it one day at a time and enjoy each new thing that DD does.
It's so hard not to worry especially when other mamas aw their kids babbling, first words etc. Try not to worry, your LO will start babbling when you least expect it!
An acronym I don't know! Woohoo!
What does OSB mean?
Your post cracks me up!!
Ditto what everyone else said, that every kid is different. It is SO hard not to compare though. Especially when you have friends on FB who have kids close to the same age as yours and they're "reciting shakespeare" and square dancing at 7 months!
My LO said mama way before he said Dada...but was still a couple weeks behind a friend of mine, whose daughter was walking and talking by 9 months!
We are teaching two languages and we were told bilingual babies speak later!!
DD say dadadada to everything (no context) She say "ook" when picking up a book but I am not 100% positive she knows what she is doing, and signs all done but hasn't learned any signs since then.
my two chat constantly, saying dada, baba (in context, as they only refer to their bottles as baba) and DS has called dh "dahtee"(only twice, and could totally be a fluke.
That said, theres' no mama to be heard, and they only started about 3 weeks ago
One Star Bandit. This got one-starred originally.... so yes, I did 5-star my own post!
Really? Hmmm....I guess that's not the case with DD because she's been babbling since a young age and my parents have been speaking to her in vietnamese since day one.
Its so hard not to compare to other kids and books that tell you what is "normal". Chances are, your LO will get there in his own time. My DS has a speech delay and has been through over 1 year of speech therapy and just now, 1 week prior to his 3rd b-day has finally hit his "explosion of speech". He still has a speech articulation issue, but he is expected to catch up before kindergarten.
I never realized when he was a baby that his "babbling" was not really babbling. I realize now that I have DD and hear her babbling. She makes syllables, DS made grunts/sounds. With that said, if your LO does have a speech delay, its not the worst thing in the world- stay on top of it and remember that the earlier intervention the better. But its still early, wait until 12-15 months to see if he has a word or two and then ask your pedi for an evaluation.
hahaha yours makes the "static" sounds too? rocco does that ALLL the time STILL! and he growls. a lot.
but now he chats up a storm with the "mom mom" and "dadada" and even a "wwwwwhaT?"
I'm just like you, always concerned that he's not hitting the milestones as quickly as the next kid. I even posted that I'm freaking out a little that he still doesn't have any teeth....like they'll NEVER come in, right?
ugh...moms.
