Parenting after a Loss

Looks like DD is allergic to eggs

Boo!  After talking with the nurses and doctors extensively this morning it they all agree that they feel LO is allergic to eggs.  They categorized her initial reactions as mild (a red rash around the mouth) and the new ones as severe.  Looks like we'll be taking her in for blood tests in the next week or two.  It's crazy how many things we have to avoid - I had no idea eggs were in so many things!  They think her veggie burgers caused her vomiting the past two times.  If she is allergic to eggs I really hope that she outgrows it!

  • oh no!  Poor Lillian!  That's definitely not an easy one to avoid.  I really hope she outgrows it.  My old coworker's son was allergic to eggs (and lots of other things) and he outgrew it by the time he was 2, I think.

  • Oh No!  I feel for you, as my LO has a dairy allergy.  It sucks.  We haven't tried eggs at all yet (except maybe a little baked into something) as we are avoiding everything that is highly allergenic.  Here's hoping they both outgrow the allergies!

  • Oh no, I'm so sorry! That is such a bummer. I hope she outgrows it-fast!

  • Poor thing.  Hopefully she will outgrow it soon.  Eggs are in a lot of things, but you'll soon be a pro at avoiding them.

  • Bummer. :( You'll get the hang of what you can buy/feed to LO. A friend of mine uses a great egg substitute when she makes stuff for her vegan friends. I don't know what it's called, but I'm sure you can try whatever's at the grocery store. You'll just have to make more stuff from scratch for a while, until she outgrows it. I've been doing that for a while since we're not doing dairy, and it hasn't been that bad.

  • This happened to my cousin. For about 4 years they didn't even go into a resturaunt or house where eggs were cooked or had been cooked in the previous 24 hours... not even in cake or cookies. He was able to out grow it by them doing that!

  • Boo! At least you figured it out, though. Hugs!

  • Oh no!  A couple of food allergy resources I've found to be helpful are kidswithfoodallergies.com and The Food Allergy Mama's Guide to Baking (or something like that).  The website has recipes if you become a member for $25 and you can search for recipes specific to LO's restrictions.  The cookbook gives several substitutes for eggs.  We are making a carrot cake from there for the bday and use mashed bananas instead of eggs.  We also made a pancake recipe, froze about 20 and will pop one in the microwave a couple times a week.  Not sure if commercial pancake mixes have eggs or not, but it is pretty handy and I totally plan on sticking purees veggies in the next batch!  : )
