Hi everyone! I'm new to joining the Bump - my husband and I have been TTC for the past two months. I just starting charting and using an OPK this cycle, but neither have given me any indication that I'm ovulating yet (I was on BCP for about 13 years).
I just wanted to do my intro! I look forward to getting to know everyone!
Re: Newbie
my read shelf:
Thank you for the welcomes. Payne and sbgreen - your babies are very cute! Mrs. Sarah - congrats on your pregnancy!
Were any of you on the pill for a long period of time before getting pregnant? If so, how long did it take for your cycle to regulate when you stopped?
My DH keeps telling me to relax, and I know I need to. But I can't help but feel nervous that we're going to struggle TTC because of my irregular cycles, which is why I went on the pill in the first place.
hi & welcome!
i wasn't on the pill as long as you were - only about 6 years? but i also have pretty irregular cycles (especially after going off the pill).
it took us about 6 months to conceive. when i finally stopped worrying about it was when it happened, but that's probably just coincidental
good luck!!!
Good luck to you! I was on the pill for about 11 years or so (I had irregular cycles as well). When I went off the first 6-10 months were very strange. My cycles were all over the place. I went as high as nearly 60 days at one point. But they did start to become more regular eventually and ended up around 40 days when I got pregnant.
Be patient and keep at it with the charting. Give yourself a few months to see patterns and I'm sure you'll do great. The body does weird things when you go off BC, so don't be too hard on yourself. I didn't find the OPKs to be that useful nearly as much as the charting.
Honestly, on the day we conceived I thought I wasn't going to ovulate for another 2 days. Then when I looked at my charts and realized it was a real possibility, the 10 days until I got my BFP were some of the longest days of my life. Deep down I just knew we got pregnant.
Best of luck! Keep at it with the charting. It really helped me out!
Thanks Zoe and Josie!
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions in the next few months - so it's nice to know that there are people here that have gone through similar situations.
Josie - I like the "Twins Territory"!
Welcome!
I was on the pill as well, but only about 6 years. I got off at the end of July in 2008 and did not conceive until April/May of 2009. It took us a good 9 months to finally conceive and I would say it really helped to stop thinking about it. I really thought about it every single month and when I finally pushed the thought out of my head, it happened and I was pregnant.
Good luck!
Welcome
I was on the pill for 15 years. Surprisingly my cycles have been regular and very much on time. I went off the pill in March, started TTC in June but nothing yet
Main key really is to relax and not to think about it (something pretty much impossible to do, I know)
But the more relaxed you are the quicker your body will adjust.
Some women are extremely fertil the first couple months after getting off the pill, some can take up to 6 months to start ovulating. Just remember, you may not be ovulating even if you are getting your periods.
Just relax and don't worry. But if you should notice that after 6 months there is still no indication of ovulation, I'd talk to your doc, I think there is medication that can help you get back on track.
Good luck!!
