Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone's LO not walking at 13 months?

DS has taken a few steps by himself, but no real walking.  If he is holding onto something (ottoman, lion walker) he cruises like crazy!  I'm not terribly concerned by it, but I have had some people give me the "you might want to be concerned" look when I say DS isn't walking yet. Anyone else's LO not walking at 13 months?  Thanks!

  • Don't worry. My DD was 14 months when she started walking. People do look at you like your child is crazy just cause they aren't walking yet. Try to just brush them off.  He will do it any day now.

  • DD cruises as well on everything.  She'll go from furniture to furniture to get around but is afraid to let go and stand/walk on her own.
  • eh...my girls aren't walking and are almost 15 months and I'm not worried...
  • DD was cruising (walking holding furniture at 16 months) and started walking at 17 months!  Don't stress, he'll get there!!  I heard that it is only a worry if they are not even trying by 18 months, so you are fine!

  • My DS just turned one on Monday, but he is no where near walking yet.  He doesn't even cruise furniture.  He just started pulling up on furniture about a month and a half ago.  If I had to guess, I would say he won't be walking until he is 15 or 16 months old.

  • DD just started really walking on her own and DS is still only taking a few steps, if any, on his own.  They are 15 1/2 months and while they were 2 months early, this would still be considered "late" by a lot of peoples' standards.  I am not worried at all.  I worked in the developmental field and I also worked in the toddler room of a daycare for a long time.  I saw babies walk at 9 months and others not walk until 20 months.

  • Eli didn't start walking until about 13 months (really well by 14 months) because of his ear infections.  He had so much fluid in his ears that his balance was completely out of whack.
  • My girls are not walking yet either.  Lauryn cruises on everything and has taken steps here and there.  Everyone keeps saying "any day now".  I'll believe it when I see it.

And Ava just started cruising.  But she is not standing unassisted yet.

I figured it will happen when they are ready.

  • DD didn't start walking until she was almost 16 months. Now she walks absolutely everywhere. We have even stopped using our stroller or Ergo much unless we need her to take a nap while we're out and about.

13 months without walking is not a cause for concern. The "average" range is from 12-18 months.

  • B is absolutely content crawling and pulling up onto things.  He really doesn't even attempt to stand on his own if he isn't holding on to anything.  He'll push things and walk behind them slowly, but right now crawling gets him where he wants to go!
  • Nope.  Not pulling up or cruising either.
  • DD is almost 14 months and she's nowhere near walking yet (hasn't even taken her first steps)... I'm not concerned at all, and neither was her pediatrician. If she's 17-18 months and hasn't taken a step yet, then we'll talk.

  • DD is  not quite 13 months but still content cruising, not even standing on her own yet.  I'm not too worried.
  • DD started full on walking at 18 months and DS started at 18 1/2 months.  They just weren't motivated.  The comments from family and strangers were really starting to get to me.  The pedi said if they weren't walking by 20 months he'd refer them to be evaluated.  He wasn't worried because he held their hands and walked around with them so he knew they could walk, he just wanted to make sure there were no medical reasons behind it.

Hang in there, it's going to happen, trust me.

  • I considered DD a walker at 14 months. Before that, she would take a few steps here and there but used cruising and crawling more often.

  • DD didn't walk full-time until almost 14mos.  Even then, it took a few more weeks to reset her 'default' mode to walking.

  • 9-18m is the normal range. I think 13-14 months is actually the average. My LOs were 14m and almost 16m when they started full-on walking.

  • DS isn't walking and he's almost 14 months.
  • Cruising furniture, pushing toys at 14 months and full walking at 17 months. He was more of a climber.

Interesting. I never thought about this. DD is not walking yet, not even close. She just started pulling up the other day. She had one ear infection, but she had lots of fluid in her ears the past 6 months. I think I will bring this up during her 1 year appointment on Friday.

  • dd just started walking at 15 mos. the ped wasnt worried since she could stand on her own (DD is 35 inches tall and has been for awhile and i think her center of gravity is off and she was unsure of walking) so she teeters to and from people now, but still prefers crawling for quick getaways, : )
