Tell me about...

Ft. Stewart.

We just found out this is (probably) going to be our first duty station. I say probably because it's on his ERB/AKO, but no official orders yet. I am from FL and my whole family is on the East coast, so I *really* hope that these orders stick.

Are any of you ladies stationed there/have been? Any expereiences with L&D at the MTF there (trying to decide if I should switch to Prime when we move)?

Re: Tell me about...

  • We are at Hunter AAF.  It is about 45 min away from Stewart and they share amny facilities.  I hate Wynn, the hospital out at Stewart.  My H was there for a while after he was injured.  I have had friends who delivered out there also.  I would deliver on the side of the highway before I delivered there.

I would recomend you stay on Standard and plan to deliver at one of the hospitals in Savannah.  I prefer Candler's L&D over Memorial's.  There is also a birthing center in town.  I used the midwives there, but delivered at Candler.  I loved my midwives.

I would look into off post housing.  Look into the Richmond Hill or Pooler areas.  The school systems in those towns are much better. They have new housing on post, but it isn't great.  The Hinesville area off post is pretty funky, too.  The base it's self isn't bad, it is just the area around it.

  • 2 of my best friends are PCS'ing there this winter. I would love to be lucky enough to get stationed there too. All our family is on the East coast as well, with many living in GA, FL, and SC. It would be great to be so close!

    Goodluck!

This. I have friends in Pooler (I'm orig from FL myself) and they love it. They're neighbors are stationed at Stewart. Definitely look into off-post housing if you can. The outskirt areas are nice. GL and hope yall get the orders you want.

  • we were stationed at Hunter but i worked at Stewart. The new on post housing is nice enough. honestly its better than living in hinesville. i second not going to Winn though for delivery. i dont have any friends who had good experiences there and there are no private rooms. that sucks big time. living in savannah or pooler is always an option but it is a hell of a drive for DH. we lived in savannah since DH was at HAAF but I drove to stewart everyday. we lived close to 95 in Georgetown and it still took a good 35-45 minutes one way. Richmond Hill is a nice area there that would put you closer to post and be about a 25-30  minute drive depending on which gate you used. good luck!
