Many of you have asked about Alex, and I tried to not post too much info on facebook, but will divulge a little more here. Alex was in the hospital for 7 days, just getting home this past Saturday. He had diarrhea for over 20 days, a fever of 103 for over 10 days, he was pooping blood and having acme serious stomach pains. I had him at several doctors appointments and I just kept getting told he had a really bad virus. Not so much. Alex was diagnosed with crohns disease and will be on medicine for the rest of his life. He had a colonoscopy, endoscopy, liver biopsy, and an MRI done, all signs pointing to crohns. Were still waiting on results from hia liver biopsy, the outcome only affecting the medicine he's taking, if the auto immune disorder has affected his liver as well, then we have to switch medications. He's absolutely doing much better and will be returning back to school next week. For any who asked or prayed for us, thank you so much for your kind words and sincerity. It meant a lot to know that so many of you had him in yout thoughts.
Lauren

I'm so glad you have a diagnosis and can treat him for this. Good job using mommy intuition and making sure you kept at the Drs to get an answer!!!

I'm so sorry to hear that he's going through this. I hope things get better with the medication and easier for him.
You are amazing, Lauren.
First, I am so glad you got a diagnosis because that week of unknown must have been terrifying. I am sorry that it is not something he will grow out of but at the same time so glad that it is not something more serious.
Second, girl, you are the anti-oversharer! I'm glad you told us because from FB I had no idea what was going on. <<<hugs>>> I am so glad he is doing so much better.
Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry Lauren! Glad he is doing better. My thoughts are with you guys. I have Crohn's Disease and went through most of my childhood with doctors thinking that it was all in my head and I was just a "worry wart." It was tough.
I was finally diagnosed with Crohn's Disease as an adult after many incorrect diagnoses and ending up in the hospital. I found an amazing gastroenterologist who taught me how to eat for my illness and found the best medications for me. Thankfully, almost 10 years after my official diagnosis, I am in remission. The disease never goes away fully, but it can be controlled. The key to everything is finding a great doctor. I'm sure they also directed you to this website https://www.ccfa.org/.
If you have ANY questions or need anything, PLEASE let me know. I will keep you and Alex in my prayers. xoxo
Oh wow Lauren - so sorry you guys have been going through this. So glad to hear he is doing better and that the drs finally gave you a diagnosis!
oh lauren, I'm so sorry. Peter's cousin has had that since he was a toddler- he's 16 now and leads an incredibly normal and active life. I know he's on meds, but he follows a special diet (i think it's glucose free and some other stuff) that helps him from having to take too many meds.
Good luck and you're strong, you'll get through this and so will Alex with you by his side :-D
OMG! Poor little kid!! I am so sorry!
I haven't read the other's responses yet, so I don't know if she posted, but I think Allison8878 has Crohns disease. She might have some first hand advice for you if she has not had the baby yet.
In the meantime will say a prayer for Alex!
Oh Lauren! I am so sorry to hear about Alex. The good news is that Crohn's is a very "liveable" disease. It's not a fun one, but he will pretty much live normally as long as he takes care of himself.
One of my good friends has CD (among other bowel issues) and yes - he has been in and out of the hospital, on various medications, and had to restrict himself in certain ways - he's also been able to lead a pretty awesome life, has a fantastic job, and is an amazing photographer. He lives each day to the fullest, loves life, and I know the same will be for your Alex.

Ay, poor kid to be sick for so long! Like the others, I'm glad to hear that you have learned the reason behind his symptoms and will be able to work with the doctors to give him a fairly normal life. Like others here, a family friend has Crohns and you'd never know it if he didn't tell you. Glad you got the treatment he needed and the diagnosis. As Allison's story tells, it can be easily missed in childhood!
