I just got home from my baby budgeting class and it was AMAZING!! The info was not like what I expected. I had expected it to be how many diapers to stock up on and how much to save for maternity leave, etc. But it was more like how your taxes will change, how to cut back on certain things, how to determine if base housing is better for you, life insurance, what will change on the LES. And then alot of free programs, like free visiting nurses that will come to your house anytime of day or night, free massages and counselors that come to your house, also info about WIC and the childcare on base.
But the BEST part was all the freebies!! Like literally it felt like a mini baby shower!! First the $40 total in gift cards, then the handknit blanket/sweater/hat/socks combo in any pastel color you want! Then the best part, gerber donates tons of stuff ( crib sheets, thermal recieving blanket, bibs, burp cloths, package onesies, package sleepnplays, pairs socks and hooded towel/washcloth) And they're not all newborn! Some are 3-6 months and some 6-9 months! The same ones you would buy at the store, all gender neutral too! How nice of them!
I was thrilled about this class, maybe a little overexcited and thought I'd pass the info on, as I was a little unsure about it when I first heard of it. Also, we're at a pretty big base and there were only 3 of us there! New moms and second/third etc moms are all invited. It's called budgeting for baby and I called the navy/army/marine relief society for info on it and they held it at the family support center on base. I just thought I'd spread the word!!
