TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

My ob/gyn is infertile.

She's new to the practice (her first week!). There are also 3 other (male) ob/gyns.

When I told her I was on Clomid, she said "believe me, I can understand infertility, I went through it myself."

Then, later (when I was talking about my Clomid hot flashes) she sympathized and said, "I went through the same thing when I was on Clomid."

Soo...I never asked her if she has kids, b/c obviously I don't want to be *that* person, but I'm so curious as to how her infertility journey ended (just Clomid/IVF/adoption/childless living). She said she "went" through IF, so I assume she's no going through anything now.

Also, I couldn't help but imagine how difficult it must be to be an infertile ob/gyn. Spending most of your day dealing with healthy pregnant women, doing u/s, and delivering babies. UGH. I could never.....

Re: My ob/gyn is infertile.

  • Plus, I'm sure she sees tons of teen pregnancies and women who smoke/drink, and women who are devastated to find out they're pregnant.

What a mindf*ck of a job that would be.

  • It would be hard to have that job right now for sure!

  • It would be hard to have that job, but it would also be so nice to have someone who can really relate to the struggle.  My OB told me at my last appt that it took her almost a yr to get pg with their first & she remembers how hard it was every month.

Anything's better than some moron who refers to your miscarriage as an "abortion" & the struggle to conceive as "bad luck".

Connor Thomas 6/6/08. Discovered missed miscarriage at 17 wks 3 days, D&C 11/25/09. Please, please, please - BFP 5/21/11, EDD 2/1/11. Beta@12DPO=52, Beta@14DPO=158. U/S 7/7/11 shows strong baby measuring a couple days ahead!!! Pregnancy Ticker
  • On the other hand, she's probably super informed and proactive.

I bet she has the inside scoop on the best RE to see and all that stuff.  Plus, I'm sure she can get u/s, bloodwork or whatever done whenever she wants.

  • Wow...I can only imagine how hard that must have been for her to go through infertility and be an ob/gyn...

  • My ob's wife had multiple miscarriages, his sister had 3 failed ivf cycles.  I love that he "gets" it to a certain degree.

Of course, both of those stories ended quite happily.  Blah.

"Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray." 12/09: 5 weeks, natural miscarriage 3/10: 7 weeks, natural miscarriage 6/11: BFP! 7/11: we have a heartbeat! BabyFruit Ticker
  • I do not think that I could do that.  I also think that it would be hard for the male doctors if they were dealing with it soon.

  • My ob I switched to after I lost my twins also has unexplained infertility like me and did ivf and has 3 children from it. I felt more of a connection with her after she shared that with me.
