How did you tell DH you were PG?

I took a test and got VERY faint positive so I am going to wait a few days and test again (AF isn't due until Thurs/Friday anyway).

I want to do something a little more creative than last time and I need some ideas.

Re: How did you tell DH you were PG?

  • By no means is this creative, it just kind of fell out like word vomit.

DH and I refer to our youngest dog as "The Baby."  When DH walked in the door from work, I was sitting at the kitchen table and stated "The Baby is no longer going to be the baby!"

I definately regret doing it this way but hey, first baby, no experience with "surprise! We're expecting!" I definately plan on being more creative with my family and my IL's.

  • Made him breakfast in bed and took it in to him with DS wearing a 'Big Bro' tshirt.  Not too original, I know.  But I did get it on video, which was really cute!

  • Mine wasn't creative.  He was asleep, I took at digital, and then freaked out and started shoving it in his face.  Then he said, "Get that thing away from my face!  You just peed all over it."

But, if you want something cute, I had this idea that I thought would be fun, but I didn't use it.  I don't know, it may be super cheesy, but I'll let you decide.  I thought it would be cute to put little hints around, and see how long it would take for him to catch on.  Like, put an actual bun in the oven, and nonchalantly ask him to get it out... See if he catches on.  I don't know.  Maybe too much cheese.

  • I made sure we were in the exact same place he proposed, and mimicked his proposal with the pregnancy test stick. Luckily, the digital display saying "pregnant" stayed on all day, otherwise he would have probably wonered why I was handing him a thermometer looking thing and asking for his hand in co-parenting.
  • HAHAHA! That reminds me of the Full House episode when Uncle Jesse had the dinner of baby carrots and baby corn.

  • I had told my husband when I was going to test because I was all kinds of nervous about it.  I was 99% sure I was pregnant, but terrified to take the test and possibly see a bfn.  So I woke up that morning around 4am, couldn't sleep because I wondered if I got up to pee, would my pee later when I was officially getting up be good enough!  Silly, I know.  So at about 4:30am, I tested.... and after about a minute, there was my faint line.  I woke up my husband to make sure I wasn't imagining it, and he was so excited.  The next day I confirmed with the digital and left it out on the sink for him to see.
  • I was very shocked by my bfp and didn't believe it so I woke him up Sunday morning to let him know I was going to the store because the internet cheapie tests I had kept saying I was PG.

  • The first time?  I tried to make it romantic and cute and took him out to dinner.  I slipped the waitress a card to bring out with dessert that had a little poem in it and said "I'm pregnant" at the end.  The waitress misunderstood me and brought out dessert, the card and the entire restaurant singing "Happy Birthday" at the top of their lungs.  It was memorable, at least.  He still won't let me live it down.

This time?  It was a faint line, so I handed him the peestick and said "Do you see this or am I imagining things?"

I think you totally stole that moment from my first pregnancy! I'm screaming "Can't you see?!?! It's positive!!!" And he's squinting at me because, no, he can't see, it's dark and 6am and I'm screaming like a mad woman! I also asked him if he wanted to save the test and he assured me that in our house we do not cherish things we urinate on- I didn't fight him on it!

  • I didn't get to, the Dr did. Our story is at least somewhat funny though, I got really dizzy in the bathroom a month ago, fell and slammed my head into the bathroom door. I clearly had a concussion, and the dr wanted to do a head CT so they had to do a pg test. We both sat there stunned for a minute when she said there was a faint line. At least we both knew at exactly the same moment, which I think is pretty cool.

     Awww!  This is so cute!!

DH insisted that we test together.  We laid the stick on the counter and it said to wait 3-5 minutes.  So we both closed our eyes and held hands and tried to have a conversation, but after about 45 seconds (which felt like 5 minutes), I said let's open on a count of 3.  We opened and stood in shock and awe at our BFP!

  • I wouldn't call mine "creative", but I knew it would yield the biggest surprise, so...

I woke up early that Saturday morning so I decided to just take the test then. My husband works at a gym so I knew he'd have to be up in the next couple hours. I didn't want to wait to do it while we were both using the bathroom because I didn't want him to see the disappointment on my face when I didn't see two lines.

So, if you hadn't guessed, I was expecting a BFN. So, took the test, sat there for a minute or two until I actually looked at the stick... BFP! I was so surprised I actually gasped, giggled and started to cry! I was shaking. It took me a 1/2 hour to try and get a good picture of it!

At first I was going to send him a picture of it to his phone, but the iPhone picture was blurry and I didn't think he'd wake up to look at it. So, I just left it in the bathroom where I KNEW he'd see it.

He awoke about 45 minutes later to use the bathroom. As he left, I sat up in bed slightly with a grin on my face. He came STORMING back into the room in what seemed like SECONDS later and he said through a huge grin, "YOU PREGNANT?!" I shook my head YES, jumped up, hugged him and cried again!

Awe!  haha! So, not original, but I knew he'd get the biggest surprise by seeing it himself! Sorry, that was long!

  • I am off work for the summer. So when DH got up to go to work I went to take a test. My breasts have been killing me, but I didn't expect a positive! I took the test and the line was immediately there and DARK! I took another. I basically word vomited to him before he left work and told him I Was going to go get a digital (total score! Got a box of 2 ofr $3)! AND IT SAID YES! We went for a hike when he got off work and I showed him the test. He thought it was neat haha. Then I fell on the hike and rolled my ankle... damn.

  • This morning, I POAS when DH woke up and we both stood around a minute looking at it like "Is it? I dunno, you see it?". I wasnt smart enough to keep my pee in the cup for another test, so I had to go back to sleep. I called him at work when I took the other two and they were both positive. Not how I planned it, but I bought him a figure of a 'new dad' that I'll give him tonight to get the full effect :)

And the baby back ribs! Oh, baby!  This was always my "dream" way of doing it!  However, when the time came around, I just kind of told him.

Me too! When I took the test, my husband had just left for work. Since we had been told over and over that the odds of us actually getting pregnant were so remote, I just took it the first day of my expected period to be 100% postitive that we had a BFN... yet again. Actually, we were already in the process of getting our requisite home studies for adoption - that's how sure we were that this was probably never going to happen. When I saw the digital 'Pregnant" within 3 seconds, I was in complete shock. I think I ran around the house saying "Ohmygodohmygodohmygod..." for 1/2 hour. Then I had a heart to heart with the dog, for some strange reason. To kill time before the DH got home, I got a blood test at the Dr to make sure, and went to the bookstore and bought a ton of books. One was called "Pregnancy Sucks... for Men", which I gave him right after I told him about our amazing news.

I lost both my parents within the last 10 years, I am an only child, and my DH never met them, so the very idea of having their DNA and seeing their traits in our child is more than my heart can bear without tearing up, even to this moment.

  • yesterday I was feeling crappy and 4 days late (I'm never late). My H and I have been saying all along "if we are great and if we aren't fine." So when I got home from work I took a CBE digital  and got BFP!

I couldn't wait til H got home so I called him and I asked, "So what color should the nursery be?"

  • I took the test on our two year wedding anniversary and got a BFP.  Unfortunately, DH was away on a hiking trip with some of his guy friends until the following day.  The very next day was his birthday and I had planned a surprise party for him, so then I had to make it through that before sharing the news with him.

When everyone had left, I had a couple of random presents left over and in one of them I had wrapped up a red sox jersey.  When he pulled it out to hold it up, there was a red sox onesie underneath.  He just looked at me and was like, "Does this mean what I think it means?"  He had no idea that I was even close to taking a test, so he was beyond surprised.

  • Since it's our first, I wanted to do something cute but I was too shocked that I was actually preggo so what happened was I took the digital test and it said pregnant and I was like "omg, omg, omg" and started shaking (this was all at like 6am), so I went into the bedroom and was like "um, honey..I just took a pregnancy test and it says I'm pregnant". He says "that's good" and rolls over. At first I was upset b/c I didn't think he was excited but later realized that he was half asleep and now I laugh about it.

  • I waited for my DH to put my SS to bed and when he came out of the room I asked him to take "the stuff" out of the oven.  What he found was a hamburger bun in the oven with a little flag (I made out of a skewer and post-it flags) that said "Hi Daddy".  There was silence for a minute or two and then he came into the living room with a big cheesy grin on his face asking if I was pregnant...already!

Neither of us will ever forget it.  Especially since his ex decided to break the news by saying "Here, look at this" and showed him the test.  Not very nice at all.

  • I kind of had a feeling we were pregnant.  I took 3 test, all were negative or inconclusive.  I had DH buy 2 more.  There was a super faint line on one.  I had him verify when he got home from work.

I waited 2 days and POAS again, dark line....took a pic and sent it to his phone to say "it's for sure".

It was totally not awesome and I WISH so hard that I had the patience to plan some magical way to tell him.  I'm awful at stuff like this.

With our first one, he was in there when I took the test and we were both shocked when it was a BFP, again, not magical. :(

  • The last two times I did it I just ran out of the bathroom waving the test.  This time I wanted to do something a bit more special, so I put my youngest son in a Big Brother T-shirt (DH doesn't pay attention to detail, so it went over his head).  Then, we sat down for dinner and I brought out DH's plate - it was the pregnancy test on the plate and he about lost it.
  • Nothing creative, I can't imagine waiting to tell the father of my child unless there are other circumstances. 1st time I banged on his bathroom door until he opened it, second time I was sitting in a ball rocking back and forth when he walked in the room.

  • He stumbled into the bathroom half asleep as I was standing there looking at my tests (yes - I did 2). This was our conversation:

DH: What are you looking at?

    Me: My lines.

    DH: What does that mean?

ME: It means I hope you're ready.

    DH: Are you pregnant?

    Me: I think so.

Lots of laughing and hugging and kissing ensued. Not creative, but it was cute.
