3rd Trimester

What are you doing for back pain?

It has been AWFUL lately.  I cant even sit comfortably.  I toss and turn most of the night and then end up so sore in the morning.  I cant afford to be getting a massage once a week (and thats about what I need right now) so I'm looking for cheaper alternatives.

Re: What are you doing for back pain?

  • I soak in a warm tub and that seems to help.  Even if only temporarily.  I also use a rice heating pad.

  • The nurse in our prenatal class said that getting down on your hands and knees helps to take the pressure off a bit. I don't think the pain goes away forever, but it definitely helps when it gets really bad.

  • Does your insurace cover chiropractic care?  I just started going yesterday and I already feel a little better.  In addition to the office visits, he recommended icing the painful area for 20 mins on, 20 mins off several times a day.  Exercising (walking) every day has also helped me a ton!

I'm pretty sure it does but I've never been before....dont they want to do x-rays before treating you?  I have a toddler so having the time to really sit and ice or anything is next to impossible plus its kinda my upper/middle back and I cant reach that.  Walking probably would be great but its been SO hot and humid here that I just cant do it.

  • I have been trying to walk a little bit more to loosen things up and stretch every morning. That seems to have realy been helping the last few days.

The dr. gave me a couple of other ideas to help ease the tension: #1- place hands one on top of the other, press down on counter or desk and arch your back like a cat for 30 seconds. #2- when standing bend your knees slightly. It automatically takes some of the pressure off your lower spine and puts your body back in balance. If the pain gets too bad I use a heating pad and my dr. told me tylenol is fine if I need it.

  • Vodka and percocet.

Just kidding.  I am just sucking it up and whining to my H.  LOL.

Try a warm bath or a heating pad and make your H give you a massage every night.  I have even thought about bringing a tennis ball to work and putting it between my back and the chair to rub where the big knots are in my back.

  • What helps me is not sit a certain way, have a pillow to help support my back, heating pad, ice packs, warm bath, hot shower, child's pose from yoga, pelvic tilts, and sitting on a yoga ball helps also

Nope, no xray required.  It might be worth a visit, they might have some good tips for you.  Oh my god, it's been horribly hot and humid here too!  I've been getting my arse up at 5:30am to walk before work because otherwise it's too unbearable to exercise.  It's not easy to keep this schedule, but it definitely helps.

  • I make DH give me a massage every other night. There not very long but he does a good job.

  • Ice it!  if you are having pain down your leg and lower back ice just above your butt crack.  Seriously, most people think heat is the way to go but ice is usually better.  And, rest!

  • I see the chiro once a week.  I also just bought a pregnancy support band last night.  It feels so good and I can honestly say I feel the difference already.  This is it.  I bought it from a local maternity/baby store, but this was the first sie which popped up.

  • Icey Hot!! I use one every day. :)
  • My husband is a chiro and they do not have to xray you before hand and he has done wonders for me!! I also stay in our recliner. Hope you feel better soon!!
