Illinois Babies

All Kids

Has anyone here used All Kids as insurance for their baby?  I was told when I called that I could not apply until after the baby was born, but they would go back and cover and bills from the baby's birth on, once the paperwork went through.  It makes me a little nervous not having something solidified at the birth.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

Re: All Kids

  • I lost my insurance when I lost my job (small business cancelled the insurance plan to keep from offering cobraAngry) So I went to the dept of family services and they were able to give me medicaid card for my family and that's covered everything so far.

I truly miss my BC/BS PPO but the medical card has been a blessing during these hard times.

  • Even with regular insurance you don't get them insured until after they are born.

  • Do you have health insurance??  If not then you can apply for Moms and Babies I think its called.  After delivery then the baby goes onto All Kids and if you do not have insurance you can go on All Kids as well.  If you have insurnace then there are some guidelines.

Yep, this. If you meet the income requirements, you can get Moms & Babies. If not, you get Allkids as soon as LO is born, and if YOU are uninsured, you can get Family Care. It's like Allkids but it's for parents/guardians who have kids under 18 living with them (so a husband/partner/significant other/etc could be covered as well).

I'm still curious as to how Moms & Babies works when you do have insurance. I have insurance, but DH and I are way under the income threshold for the program

  • We are on moms&babies. When I got pregnant I went and applied and got it right away. I think it is weird that they said you would have to wait until the baby is born. Have you tried to maybe talk to someone else? My LO has BCBS for his primary and all kids for his secondary now. But you should be covered immediately otherwise you will never get a doctor to see you without insurance.
  • I have insurance through BCBS, but the premium to add a dependent is ridiculous.  All Kids told me that since it's just for the baby they can't accept an application without a name, birthdate, etc.  So, I have to apply once the baby is born and they will go back and cover everything up to that point once I'm accepted.  I am just nervous they'll come up with some reason to decline us and we'll be stuck with an enormous amount of bills.
  • Your insurance will cover your pregnancy though right? As long as that is covered there shouldnt be anything that all kids will have to cover until he is born. I know that my moms & babies covered my LO as soon as he was born which also included his birth because I needed a c-section and had to have a pedi in there. That would be something you should ask. I dont understand what they would go back and cover since you are covered under BCBS.
  • Sorry for not being clear.  My insurance will cover me through pregnancy, but All Kids won't cover LO until I apply - which I can't do until after the baby is born - because they need a name and a date of birth for it to be effective.  So, I'll be covered, but the baby won't.  All Kids said they would go back and cover all expenses from the point of baby's birth on once I have applied, but that's what makes me nervous.
