Opinions on Scripps Mercy in Hillcrest???

Just found out my doctor will only deliver at Scripps Mercy.  I wanted to have the option to research hospitals and choose what we liked best.  May have to switch doctors... Opinions? Experiences? Better options?

Re: Opinions on Scripps Mercy in Hillcrest???

  • I am a Scripps patient, and my doctor will deliver in La Jolla. My neighbors are L&D nurses for UCSD, and they tell me that they best hospital in the area to have a baby is Memorial in La Jolla.

Since you are so early in your pregnancy, and you want to switch doctors, just call the 800-Scripps number, and ask for another OBGYN. That might mean that you'd have to switch clinic location as well.

My best friend had her baby a year ago at Mercy, and it went wonderful for her. I have not heard any major complaints from them.

    Hope this helps! Congratulations!

  • I'm delivering at Scripps Encinitas, but I know that Mercy is the largest of all of the Scripps hospitals.  The whole system is great.  I don't have any personal experience w/ babies there.  I would stick w/ that hospital though if you like the dr.

  • I would switch docs now if I were you and find one who will deliver at Scripps La Jolla. I have heard from many moms and docs they are the best (private rooms!). I wish I had known before I had my son. I will be switching docs next time and finding a doc who will deliver there. I delivered at Scripps Encinitas. The delivery was fine but the recovery was horrible. Sharing postpartum rooms is the worst idea ever.
  • I delivered at Scripps Mercy and LOVED it. It could not have been a better experience and my DD was in the Special Care Unit the whole time due to being born 4 weeks early. I have had 3 friends deliver there and they have had the best experiences as well. With this baby, I am driving way out of my way just to ensure I deliver at Scripps Mercy again because I was so happy the first time around.?
  • i didn't deliver there, but was hospitalized at 23 and 28wks there.  stayed in postpartum rooms and nurses were very nice.  rooms were all private.  ended up delivering at ucsd b/c had to be transferred to a hosp with level 3 nicu, which by the way was good too.  and, i did lose my OB in the transfer... she would only deliver at scripps mercy

from my experience mercy would give good care.

  • I have had surgery (via my GYN) at both Scripps La Jolla and Scripps Mercy. It was a world of difference between the two and I highly recommend Scripps LJ if you can do it. The difference was in the details--the nurses were much better, and the facilities were fantastic at LJ.

Also, I have friends who are nursese and live around the corner from Scripps Encinitas and say they would never deliver there, that they would only go to the LJ hopstial. Hope this helps.

  • Did you end up going to Scripps Mercy? If you did, how did you like it?

I am due in March 2011 and I can't find anything on the place (I do plan to take a tour).  I have an HMO so I have to stay within my primary's network....which of course only includes Scripps Mercy.

     Thanks!
