I took LO grocery shopping for the first time last week and it was awful! She slept through the entire trip, but i had to put her carseat inside of the shopping cart and was left with nowhere to put the groceries. I tried her in the baby bjorn but she's still too little for it. Does anyone put the carseat on the top part of the shopping cart? I heard that it's dangerous to do so, but i can't figure out how to go shopping otherwise....

Re: Taking LO to grocery store..
I have done it. I only go to one grocery store now, because only one around me has carts that her infant seat can lock on to. If I need to go to a different store, I have a family member stay with her while I go.
This! (although I adore this certain store, so it all worked out for me)

My LO is over 6 weeks old and I still haven't gone anywhere alone with her. I always have DH with me. I'm such a scaredy-cat! One of these days I need to just get over it and go.
i have to shop with either the Baby Bjorn or the Moby, b/c although my carseat can lock onto the top of the cart...I am too short to see over the top of it.

I've put both kiddos on the front of the cart. It locks into place. No problems, ever.
Won't be long before they are sitting up? I believe DS#1 was about 8 months. That would be a really long time not to grocery shop, haha.
Now I have the baby in the front and DS in the cart. I still don't have a ton of room, but enough. I also put stuff on the shelf underneath.

I've put him in the top part of the shopping cart before, but don't anymore. It doesn't seem safe to me. I agree with you about not having any room in the shopping cart for anything else; even the big Target ones don't fit much more than the carseat.
I try not to grocery shop without DH for this reason. If I really need to, I plan on wearing LO in my moby wrap. He likes it and is content whenever he's in it.

We've had two successful trips to the grocery store with just the two of us using a Sleepy Wrap

She just slept while I shopped and I had my hands free. It works like a gem for a newborn.
I use a sling or a wrap. Both hands are free and she sleeps through the entire shopping trip.
Infant car seats are not meant to be clicked in on the top because the issue isn't the car seat falling off, it is that the entire cart may tip, with the baby attached to it. Sounds impossible, but unfortunately it does happen more often than you may think. I think Chicco even makes it so that their car seats will not click into the carts so people will not use them in that capacity.
