Whose DH is NOT getting a diaper bag??

I can't fathom why my Dh would need his own diaper bag. I don't know why... maybe I'm clueless here. There will be times when he has her without me. But I just can't see the need for his "own" diaper bag. Anyone else with me?

  • Mine isn't.  But ours are both black, so he has no 'issues' with it--but even when I was looking at super girly ones, he said he didn't care--he said for the number of times he'd be carrying one, it wasn't worth worrying about.

  • i'm with you. i will be a SAHM and using it most of the time, and when he takes the baby out w/o me, he can grab mine.

  • Mine. He'll use a small backpack if he needs to but he won't be getting a male diaper bag.
  • mine is much more 'girly', and i know he wont use it.  so he is just getting a plain black messenger bag!
  • Mine isn't.  The one I registered for is brown with pink lining, so if he is carrying it it won't be a big deal.
  • We're just getting one.  I can't imagine trying to keep 2 different bags stocked and ready to go.

  • I wanted him to have stuff that will get him excited to take the baby out on his own, so we registered for a diaper dude bag and he loves it! I think it's nice because barely anything about this pregnancy has been about him and now we finally get to buy a few items that are just for him (I also got him the Baby Bjorn that he wanted; I have a sling.)

  • DH won't have his own diaper bag per se, but the ones that we're looking at are masculine enough that he has said he feels comfortable carrying it.

  • I just got a Coach diaper bag this weekend (a good knock-off) and he refuses to use it when he goes out. He will most likely use the one we got free from the OB office (a nice small black one) or the one on the registry.
  • IMO a kid does not need more than 1 diaper bag.  We picked a plain black Skip Hop Spark, it looks just like a black tote bag.
  • Mine isn't getting his own, and like you I don't see the point of him having his own unless he really wanted his own. We bought a Petunia Pickle Bottom bag, which is super girly too and I doubt it will ever bug him.
  • We have one diaper bag for our baby.  I don't think there is any need for each of us to have our own.
  • We have two, but only because I got an extra one as a gift.  Neither are particularly girlish, and I specifically registered for one that Dh would have no objections to carrying.

So, no, DH is not having his "own" diaper bag.  But then, neither am I.  Our bags are for carting baby stuff, not for style.

  • Considering I have two bags of my own, I thought it would be fun to let DH have one too.  Also, I sort of "invested" in mine, and I don't know that DH would care for them as I would.
  • Mine did not have one with DD and he will not have one this time. I think it would be pain to have 2 bags ready to go at all times. We will just share one!
  • My DH says he is perfectly fine using the pink diaper bag I have picked out.  Our DD will have a pink and purple stroller, and he has no qualms with the pink diaper bag..  His thoughts are I am a Daddy to a little girl who cares if I carry a pink bag, not me..
  • Neither of us are getting a diaper bag. We have enough back packs, messenger bags and totes to cover our baby baggage needs.
  • Mine isn't.  He won't be using mine, which is pink and brown and very feminine, but he just figures he can use a backpack instead of buying a special diaper messenger bag.
  • Due to the way that DH and I's schedules work we will both have our own diaper bags.  I can't imagine him needing one if I was a SAHM, but we both view DS as a partnership and he will have him alone just as much as I will.

  • not mine - he would never. My diaper bag (with DS and DD) is solid black - not feminine in any way - he STILL wont use it because it's a diaper bag.?
  • Mine isn't. We got one in brown so it's "manly" enough for him.  I didn't care what it looked like to be honest.  I didn't need anything frilly.  It's just a diaper bag.

  • we'll probably share also
  • i registered for one of those dad gear diaper bags. and well someone sent it to us before the other diaper bag was bought. ?and i actually like that one better then the original one i wanted. ?so hes not getting his own anymore since the one that was?supposed?to be his is the main one now. and then we have a smaller one for short outings.?

  • I'm assuming that while I'm on my 5mo maternity leave, I won't want to carry both a purse and a diaper bag. So that would pretty much require us to have our own bag, unless DH wants to take my wallet, keys, lipstick, etc. with him when he goes out...

  • Yeah, we will have just one. DH wouldn't want to carry around a Vera Bradley bag or something like that, but we are just using my old Timbuk2messenger bag.  I do think it is kind of cute when the DH wants his own. ..
  • My DH will just use mine when he has the baby without me. I have no idea why you would need more then one diaper bag.
  • I never even thought of this until recently, but am definitely not going to be getting him one. He can just use mine if he needs to. At a maternity store, they were trying to talk us into buying my H his own camo baby sling/wrap (for only $70- yeah right!). Ummm, no thank you!

  • DH has straight up told me there is no way he'd carry one & I don't blame him.  I'm not really one of the girls that thinks it's cute or necessary for men to have diaper bags.

I don't think that was the op's alternative to DH having his own. I'm pretty sure she meant get his own or share the same one. What exactly does your DH plan to carry diapers and baby supplies in while he's out with the baby? His wallet? Or does he plan never to take the baby anywhere by himself?

  • DH never went anywhere with DD alone unless he was dropping her off at his parents, but I don't remember him just going to the store or anything without me. Plus I just have a red & black skip hop duo, and we keep diapers & wipes in the glove box for emergencies so if he forgets the bag we have stuff on hand. I don't see the point in him having his own bag.

  • Dh doesn't want his own diaper bag, but we are getting a second one.
  • Weird. My DH registered for HIS diaper bag first (since removed it, because he can't decide which one is "the coolest").

I just found the cheap-o Carter's one I'll use, but DH has wanted his own from Day 1. He has the 'dad gear' or whatever section of diaperbags.com bookmarked.

While I don't think separate bags are at all necessary, I love that he's so into it, and I'm not going to 'tell him' he has to use mine. Go for it, Papi....

  • My DH is man enough to carry my PBK bag when he goes somewhere with Rylee.

  • My DH got his own because mine is a pink Juicy bag.  He's not going to want to carry that around by himself.
  • My DH does not have his own diaper bag. I have two. The Stork Sak Gigi in chocolate, which I love for quick trips and use it almost everyday.  The other is an Eddie Bauer overnight diaper bag in black, which is great for daytrips and overnights. It looks like a large messanger bag. I also have a small carry case from Skip Hop. DH takes the carry case from Skip Hop. It is basically a diaper clutch. It has a changing pad, room for 4 diapers/wipes and an extra outfit. He is rarely out with her alone. If he has her it's for a quick trip to the store or his moms.  For some reason if he had her for the day he'd carry the Eddie Bauer bag. The Stork Sak is a little to girly for him as it looks more like a large tote bag.
