Parenting after a Loss

For those w/crawlers

Do you have an entire room dedicated to LO so they can crawl wherever (all baby-proofed and what not) or do you gate off a section of a room? Other than his bedroom, he spends the majority of time playing in our computer room-all his toys, play mat, etc. are in there. However, there are also some wires from the computer, though mostly behind the solid desk. Should I just gate off the 2 entrances to the room and let him have at it or corral him into a major portion of it (also to avoid his obsession with the radiator.) Oh, he also pulls up the edge of the area rub and tries to eat it, so I'm thinking of either a) removing the rug and just using his alphabet foam flooring or covering the entire rug and then some with that same flooring. Thoughts?

  • We have an area that is "gated" off in the living room.  We need to baby proof more in order to allow her more access to the house.

  • I'm struggling with what to do too. DD is army crawling now and very close to crawling/pulling up. She puts everything in her mouth and goes straight for the power cords/wires. We don't have a room specifically for her that she can play in and all of her stuff is in our living room. I'm not really sure what to do either.

Our living room is (almost) entirely baby-proofed, so we let him roam at his leisure in there without too much worry. The coffee table has rounded edges, the other tables have nothing on top of them anymore, and we've taken everything off the lowest shelves, which are built into the wall. Yeah, our living room is quite bare these days!

There is one cord still in the wall for our floor lamp that he always goes for, but we're teaching him no and just re-routing him when he goes for that.

Oh, and we do block off the whole living room so he can't roam into other rooms. We close the door to our bedroom, and we put our ottoman in the doorway to the dining room to block him.

  • Our downstairs is really annoying - the living room/dining room is open.  It's not completely babyproofed, but enough that I feel OK letting DD crawl around in the rare moments that she consents to stray from me for more than a couple minutes.  I would have preferred to be able to gate off the living room, but I didn't want to spend $200 on a gate that is long enough ...

Yes! The "corral" is so expensive! I was also thinking that maybe it's not sturdy enough should he try to pull up and stand. I think we will end up gating off the entrances and baby proofing as much as possible inside the free area

  • no, he roams around the house. But our place is small 1200sqft so it is easy to keep an eye on him.
