What to wear (Interview!)?

I have my third meeting and interview with a place I am trying to get a part time job at. I am trying to decide what color shirt to wear. I want a solid color, and have pink, orange, or off white to wear. I have already worn the pink top, and I am afraid I will look to Halloween if I wear the orange top. I have an off white top, but it's long sleeve and I am afraid I will be too warm. I will be wearing black slacks.

Can I wear the pink shirt again? The interview will not be with the same people. Will I look like a pumpkin if I wear Orange and Black?

Re: What to wear (Interview!)?

  • Depends on the shade of orange, but you'll be fine. Do you have a suit jacket you can wear over it?

  • I would go with the off white shirt.  Simple, clean, conservative, stylish, and confident.
  • I always think that anyone over the age of 21 should be wearing suits to job interviews (unless they're applying at McDonalds, or Microsoft).  Do you have a suit jacket you can put over one of the shirts?

  • I'd go with the orange or the off-white to be on the safe side.  If you wear the white, find a bright-colored accessory (scarf, necklace, etc.) to make yourself stand out.  Good luck!

  • Thanks Everyone!

I think I will try the off white shirt. I will have to change my necklace because of the neckline, but it will look good (not bright, but simple). Unfortunately, I don't have a suit jacket, and have never needed one for this type of job. Wearing one, would be overdressed in this area.

Somedays I wish I had more style, but I am pretty plain Jane.

You'll look fine!  I will argue with you on one thing...if you're testing for the type of job I think you are, suits are always best.  After having conducting dozens of tests for this position, I always am most impressed by those in a suit.  I know they won't need to wear one day to day, but it makes an impression and puts them above other candidates in the effort category.
