Can we talk baby poop?

I never thought i would google baby poop more than I have lately. As we are trying to figure out if something is bugging C or if he is just a fussy baby, i've notice that his poop has become a lot more watery and a green/yellow color. Has anyone had experience with this? I know green poop is something to keep an eye on but can be normal but didn't know if anyone had any advice. We have his 1 month check up this week so I'm trying to decide if we should try to get in sooner or just wait until Friday.

  • I am no help, but I've been thinking about you & wondering how things are going. Any improvement at all? Is he warming up to the bassinet?

  • Oh Jennifer...  I'm sorry you're having a bit of a hard time...  I definitely know first hand where you're coming from.  I had (past tense, notice) a very fussy baby.  It took A LOT to try to eliminate the fuss and I noticed the same things you're noticing.  One thing that helped was that I cut out dairy (and soy!).  I'm still off  dairy, and when I eat cheese, you can definitely tell the difference in Mari.   I noticed that her poop used to be very loose and when I started laying off the cow, it became a little more, hmm... what's the word?  Goopy?  Rather than watery?  KWIM?

Also, if you're seeing green, it's probably from a bit of a foremilk/ hindmilk imbalance.  Do you feed C off one boob at a time or are you a switch hitter?   I also noticed a difference when I started making sure one boob was really like mush before I offered the next one.  Most of the time, she wouldn't even take boob #2.  Also, try to feed off the same boob in like a 2-3 hour time.  It's called block nursing, I think.  Evening out the fore/hind should help with the greens and it'll also help C gain some weight (not that I think he's lacking at all, lol).

Keep me posted, I'm all about the poop!

  • Sad to say I've done a lot of googling about baby poop, too.  I like this site.  Here's what it says about watery green poo:

Frequent Watery Stool often ?Greener? than usual
How can you spot diarrhea in a baby who has loose frequent stools every day?  This type of poop is ?diarrhea? in a breastfed baby.  It can be due to a virus, a bowel infection, stress, anxiety or a food intolerance.
