Silent Reflux?

I talked to a LC today regarding some issues LO has been having and she thought it sounded like silent reflux. I've been googling and it's definitely a possibility. If you've had this experience, what helped your LO? Do they grow out of it? I'd be so happy if we found out why he seems uncomfortable so much of the time. I'd be even happier if we could fix it.

I'm going to the pediatrician tomorrow. I hope we can find something that helps.

Re: Silent Reflux?

  • our 8 week old LO has been showing some symptoms of silent reflux as well. Our peditrician didn't want to put her on meds yet however, so we are trying to manage it in other ways.  We are keeping her upright at least 20-20 minutes after meals, and we have elevated her crib mattress with a pillow underneath.  She is most comfortable sleeping on her tummy, so I let her sleep that way during naps when I can keep an eye on her and that seems to help with the reflux.  Our doc also suggested adding rice cereal to her bottles, or feeding her some after I nurse.

  • Our LO has been battling this since about 4 weeks. We went to the pediatrician and he gave us some meds to try (Ranitidine) and it helped him right away. Before the meds I was almost afraid to feed him because I knew he was going to have a fit as soon as we were done. He would scream for at least an hour after each feeding and now he doesn't at all. We also try to keep him upright for at least 15 minutes after each feeding, he is much happier now. I know it's really hard to watch your baby cry with no way to fix it, hopefully you can figure something out soon!
  • we've been doing the same as the previous post but she's also on a medication which does seem to help.  she still spits up and swallows it, but it doesn't seem to hurt her anymore.  i'm also trying real hard to limit my dairy intake.  i've read that can help with reflux although my reasons have more to do with her gas issues.
