...telling you about the baby's size? I have my 33 week appointment next week, and the doctor has never said anything about how big the baby is (other than at the 20 week 'big' ultrasound). I see so many of you referring to the baby in pounds and percentiles? Do they do an ultrasound for that or can they just figure it out by measuring?
Re: When did you doctor start..
It was probably about 25ish weeks that they started measuring my belly with the tape measure thing. I always ask how he is measuring and so far he is right on track (I'm nervous about a big baby since DH was a 10+ pounder).
As far as I know I don't get a growth ultra-sound. I already had my two allowed my insurance and unless there is some medical need to do another I won't have one.
At the start of the 3rd trimester he started using the tape measure but never really says anything. I'm having a growth u/s at either 34 or 36 weeks (I forget which appointment it's schedule for) and I assume he'll mention the baby's size then.
A friend at work just had a baby. I asked her about a month before her due date if her doctor had estimated the size yet and she said no. I asked her again the week before her due date, and her doctor still hadn't. He ended up being over 9lbs, but she had no idea until after he was born how big he'd be. So, I guess it differs by doctor how they do it.
My doctor started measuring the fundal measurements (on the outside of your belly with a regular tape measure) around 27 weeks I think.
