Who's checked into daycare and gotten prices? I've only gone based on recommendations from family/friends. They are averaging about $35/day; I'm in northern CA....
We are already on one waitlist for a daycare center, which are more expensive (I'm also in Northern CA). The price is just under $1200/month for full time infant care.

We currently pay $190/week for dd. When she was an infant, it started at $215/week. Every time she has moved to an older room, the price dropped about $5-$10/week.
We are keeping an eye on a place recommended by us. Its an in home day care and costs $95 a week for infant care. It is an in home day care- average for an infant is $330/w. For whatever reason, this lady doesn't charge much.
We pay 205/week for DD, and the prices start at 215/week for infants, but that includes formula and/or babyfood for the little ones.
Definitely ask what is included in the price (meals, snacks, etc. I have even heard of some centers that provide diapers) and what the sick/vacation policy is because those things can make a huge difference when it comes to the "bottom line" as far as cost goes.

Looked at one for a whopping $367/week. Since we only need care three days a week, two of which are weird hours, we're going to go the nanny route. We're going to sign up for the waitlist at the daycare just in case DH gets a very different job (he's currently a chef, but has a degree in physics).

This. My moms daycare requires 2 weeks notice for vacation days or you get charged but sick days she doesn't charge. breakfast lunch and an afternoon snack are provided. Parents only have to provide diapers. so it really depends and I know she charges like $17/day... make sure to ask lots of questions when asking. Like pp said it makes a big difference.

This is the LOWEST price I've found in Southern California.
Lowest price I have found is $205/wk which includes breakfast and lunch and we have to bring diapers. I put us on the waiting list just in case but I think we're going to try and find an in-home or maybe someone's grandma likes watching kids.
My husband and I are very lucky in this aspect...we live in the middle of nowhere KS and our daycare that we chose charges $125/wk for infants. They will do cloth diapers for us, which was a bonus since no one else in town would do them.
We're on the wait list for an infant spot at DD's center. It's a whopping $1940/mo for under age 2. Huge waiting list but at least we get priority this time because DD is already enrolled.
